Primary Function of Organization Unit:
University Communications and Marketing is NC State's dedicated communications agency. Our team provides leadership, strategy, services and support to advance the NC State brand and help the university achieve its core mission.
The Office of Development Communications and Stewardship uses a strategic, integrated approach to communicate the importance of private support and encourage long-term engagement with the university.
Essential Job Duties:
NC State's Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign is the largest philanthropic effort in university history. The Development Writer will work on messaging aimed to raise Campaign awareness, illustrate the impact of private support, communicate progress toward the university's strategic goals and inspire constituents to help build a culture of philanthropy at NC State.
The Development Writer creates compelling content in support of the Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign fundraising initiatives. The writer researches, writes and edits a variety of digital and print material in support of university philanthropic priorities, including (but not limited to) scripts, proposals, cases for support and the campaign website.
Department Required Skills: # Bachelor's degree. # 2+ years' experience in professional writing and editing for higher education, nonprofit fund development work or the communications/public relations fields required; experience in both for-profit and nonprofit sectors preferred. # Knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures related to the position, including: expertise in use of English grammar, punctuation and syntax; familiarity with appropriate business software applications; ability to conduct research; understanding of branding and positioning strategies for the institution and for specific projects; ability to "ghost write" for various university administrators, staff and volunteers; and experience using various channels of communication. # Strong project management/time management skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines. # Ability to work independently and to collaborate with internal and external partners. # Flexibility and adaptability in responding to changing priorities and new opportunities. # Able to set priorities and manage multiple tasks and projects with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: # Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, technical communications or marketing. # Experience writing for capital or comprehensive campaigns within higher education.
