Senior Extension Specialist - Training and Workforce Programs

Primary Function of Organization Unit: The North Carolina Clean Energy Technology Center (NCCETC), at NC State University advances a sustainable energy economy by educating, demonstrating and providing research and technical support for clean energy technologies, practices, and policies. This mission is accomplished through work in the following major program areas; Renewable Energy, Clean Power & Industrial Efficiency, Clean Transportation, Green Building, Economic Development, Energy Policy, Workforce Development and Education & Outreach. The N.C. Clean Energy Technology Center serves as a resource for innovative, clean energy technologies through demonstration, technical assistance, outreach and training. The award-winning training program at NCCETC offers several Workforce Development opportunities for professional development and the highest level of continuing education in renewable energy technologies. This includes the Renewable Energy Technologies Diploma Series, the Certificate in Renewable Energy Management, and various customized trainings.
Essential Job Duties: The Clean Energy Training Program Specialist will be responsible for the design, implementation, marketing, and management of a comprehensive range of clean energy training and education programs. Essential job duties will include, but are not limited to: * Managing the current Renewable Energy Technologies Diploma Series, other established training programs, and customized trainings for organizations; * Developing (in coordination with the Transportation Program staff) a Sustainable Fleet Management training program; * Selecting or developing training aids including textbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works; * Managing administrative staff functions necessary to deliver and document training programs, including program management and budgeting; * Working with NABCEP and other institutions on program and instructor accreditations and continuing education credits for training programs and the annual State Energy Conference in NC; * Evaluating effectiveness of training and development programs, and utilizing relevant evaluation data to revise instructional objectives and methods; * Working with external clients and other Center team leaders to analyze and assess training and development needs for individuals, departments, and/or external organizations; * Reviewing instructor performance and recommending improvements to program content and/or instructor presentation methods; * Evaluating and implementing opportunities to expand the training program to cover relevant clean energy topics. This may include among other things developing curricula, recruiting instructors, and identifying partners; and * Working with Communications staff to market the training program effectively.
Minimum Education/Experience: Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree or greater and at least 3 years of experience working within the sustainability/clean energy industry; and at least 6 months working directly with a training or workforce development program.
Department Required Skills: * Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Apps (Google Docs, Sheets); * Excellent written and verbal communication skills; * Strong attention to detail; * Knowledge of implementation and facilitation of technical, operational, and/or specialty training events and programs; * Ability to assess training needs and objectives; * Ability to design, develop, implement, and evaluate responsive programs and initiatives including training plans, curricula, and methodology; * Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies and personalities in a diverse community; * Must be able to work independently, on multiple complex projects concurrently; * Must be able to serve as a co-PI on a grant or have a significant role on a non-grant initiative; * Must be able to directly (or through a direct report) supervise one or more interns; and * Ability to directly supervise one or more staff members.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Master's degree in relevant discipline; * Previous work or internship in sustainability or the clean energy industry and/or academic work in these topic areas; * Demonstrated knowledge, interest and/or work in the area of topic; * Knowledge of online learning platforms such as Moodle; and * Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud design platforms (Illustrator, InDesign)
