Vice President for Finance and Administration
St. Bonaventure University seeks a Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA) to form a strong partnership with an exciting and visionary new President, Dennis R. DePerro, and his leadership team to shape the next chapter of the University’s important history.
Founded by Franciscan friars in 1858, St. Bonaventure enjoys an outstanding reputation as a leading liberal arts-based university in the region, with strong business, science, journalism, education programs and a new school of health professions. Benefiting from the exposure generated by its participation in NCAA Division I athletics, St. Bonaventure has a national reputation for the excellence of its academic programs, its commitment to its students, and the passionate advocacy of its 29,000 alumni. The University enjoys excellent town-gown relationships, and its 500-acre jewel of a campus is a key resource to the Olean, New York community that it calls home.
As the University implements its strategic plan that the full campus embraces, it seeks a financial leader with a distinguished record of achievement as a senior director and a superb communicator with exceptional analytical skills. A VPFA is needed who is able to engage, represent and champion the values and activities that stem from the Catholic and Franciscan traditions that are at the heart of the University’s mission.
Reporting directly to the President and as a member of his senior team, the VPFA will serve as an essential partner and strategic advisor to President DePerro and work collaboratively with board members, other senior leaders, deans, faculty, students and staff in advancing the institution’s strategic priorities.
The VPFA will provide strategic financial leadership, and strengthen budget processes that prioritize academic planning, and optimize structures and processes to maximize effectiveness and impact. The ideal candidate will have a track record of successful senior leadership in finance and administration, and demonstrated accomplishments developing and attaining strategic goals and objectives, preferably in higher education or a similarly complex organizational setting. While successful leadership experience in higher education is preferred, analogous experience outside higher education will be considered.
Candidates must bring a spirit of partnership, transparency, and fiscal responsibility. The VPFA will understand and respect shared governance and will be an advocate for an environment that promotes inclusive decision-making, best practices, student success, and a sense of community across the University. An MBA or advanced degrees is preferred as is a CPA.
