Summary of the Position

Reporting to the Director of Prospect Research and Management, the Prospect Research Analyst is responsible for providing accurate, timely and relevant information for major gift prospects and suspects at Bentley University. This position offers key support around all aspects of prospect and portfolio maintenance and management.

Essential Functions

Determine philanthropic capacity using electronic prospect research resources and internal sources.

Research, analyze, and maintain information on prospect(s) background, wealth, interests, and capacity to give, ensuring that the donor database is up-to-date with current information; prepare confidential research for development officers.

Provide key support in the maintenance of viable portfolios via portfolio review sessions and required preparation. Provide analysis of prospect moves and stages.
Assists in the management and training of student researchers.

Assist in the identification of new prospects using electronic screen results, review of daily gift report, and additional sources.

Maintain statistics on research completed and research requests.

Other duties and projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience Requirements)

Bachelor's degree required.

1-3 years of prospect research or related experience.

Must hold and maintain a valid, unrestricted US driver's license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Bentley's insurance carrier.

Fluency with a broad range of research techniques: internet research, searching of electronic databases, and the use of other appropriate sources and methods. Ability to effectively use available databases and public information to analyze complex financial information.

Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Word) and ability to learn new programs and software.

Abila Millennium or other CRM experience a plus.

Impeccable attention to detail.

Excellent writing and editing skills.

Tact, discretion, diplomacy, and ability to deal with confidential information sensitively. Commitment to ethical research practices.

Ability to analyze, synthesize, and clearly report on a high volume of information. Ability to identify trends, make connections, and interpret patterns.

Ability to prioritize work and provide accurate information under tight deadlines.

Ability to self-motivate, to work independently, as well as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

Proven experience with Excel; experience with Millennium or other CRM; experience working in development/fundraising in Higher Education or other environment; previous experience in prospect development/prospect management.
