Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Student Accounts works closely with the Director and other departments on campus to ensure daily operations, processing, communication, and controls are effective and efficient. This position assists with the collection of student accounts receivable for new and continuing graduate and undergraduate students.

Job Responsibilities
1.Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with students, parents, and other stakeholders in a friendly, courteous manner
2.Ensures accounts receivable balances are maintained.
3.Ability to propose changes to current policies and procedures to increase customer service efforts and efficiencies. Recommends policies and procedures related to billing/AR/receipts/payment plans to ensure efficient processes, good customer service and strong internal controls.
4.Strong understanding of cash management policies and controls. Understanding of Title IV financial aid as it pertains to students' accounts is expected.
5.Reconciles financial aid disbursements with financial aid office.
6.Strategic minded and technically advanced
7.Ability to handle stressful situations in a courteous and professional manner
8.Ensures appropriate internal controls are established and maintained.
9.Works with students to help them meet their financial obligations; maintains custom, flexible payment plans as needed.
10.Inquisitive and analytical, with strong critical thinking skills. Have the ability to solve problems, including the ability to help non-experts understand policy and processes.
11.Understands federal and state collections polices and ensures University practices are in compliance.
12.Train and cross train staff on operations
13.Represents the Student Accounts office at school/college events on campus and at regional campuses; represents the University at workshops presented to student, parents and others.
16.Hires, trains and supervises Student Accounts colleagues; prepares and provides student accounts training for Student Financial Services colleagues
17.Participates in functions, events and ceremonies managed by Strategic Enrollment Management

The Assistant Director of Student Accounts reports to the Director of Student Accounts and supervises Collections staff.

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a field related to the job, 3-5 years related experience(i.e. collections/customer service) is required
  • Degree in accounting or business related field is preferred.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years
  • Experience in collections and demonstrated ability to exercise sound professional judgement in complex financial transactions is preferred.
  • Experience in higher education setting preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team environment
  • Possess solid general computer skills, including ability to work in a Windows environment. Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Internet, and other programs as needed (e.g., mail merge, data base management). Familiarity with specific applications. Banner experience within Accounts Receivable Module is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, and external constituents.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex and multiple tasks in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Cultural competency to work with diverse student and employee population.
