Assistant Football Coach (Defensive Coordinator)
Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Assistant Football Coach. This positon serves as Defensive Coordinator for a Division I FCS program; leads and coaches according to the NCAA, State, National, MEAC and Institutional guidelines. Provides support to the Head Coach in all aspects of on-field coaching, player development, academic success, recruiting, film study, practice organization, position meetings, scouting opponents, and special teams coaching. Responsible for Defensive Scout Team and Game Plan development; recruits assigned area, monitors strength and conditioning of athletes; and is accountable for the performance of the Defensive team, including strategy, planning and adjustments. Responsibilities include community service/public relations, locker room, high school relations, and the supervision and training of assistant coaches assigned to the defensive staff. Coordinates activities critical to a successful football program; may be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Four year college degree; Must have an understanding and commitment to academic and athletic excellence and a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Previous coaching and recruiting experience on the collegiate level is required. The incumbent must be able to work, communicate and develop a rapport with students, parents, alumni, faculty, departmental staff and administration. Background and/or credit check may be required.
