The Board of Governors of West Virginia University at Parkersburg (WVUP) seeks confidential expressions of interest and nominations for the next President of the college. The next President will be a visionary, politically astute, and collaborative leader, with a desire to make a long-term commitment to the college and the communities it serves.

WVUP was founded in 1961 as a branch of West Virginia University. Today WVUP is an autonomous institution with its own governing board. The nonresidential college enrolls approximately 2,500 full and part-time students, who may choose from more than 50 instructional programs that include professional certificates and degree programs at the associate and baccalaureate level. The college has the following academic divisions: Education; Business Accounting & Public Services; Humanities, Fine Arts & Social Sciences; Nursing & Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM).

WVUP offers programs at its main campus in Parkersburg, at its Jackson County Center in Ripley and online. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, WVUP is known and respected for its commitment to student success, faculty involvement in student learning, Career Ladder program, innovation, fiscal stability, responsiveness to community needs, economic development and affordable tuition.

Located at the junction of the Ohio and Little Kanawha Rivers, Parkersburg and the greater Mid-Ohio Valley are nestled among scenic hills and valleys. Home to the largest functioning historic district in the State of West Virginia, Parkersburg is steeped in history and offers an abundance of outdoor and cultural activities. Parkersburg is a short driving distance to major metropolitan areas including Pittsburgh, PA, Columbus, OH, and Washington, D.C.

West Virginia University at Parkersburg's next President will provide visionary leadership and inspire a team of dedicated and talented faculty, staff, and administrators to provide quality programs and services that meet the needs of the college's students and the communities. The President will serve as an effective, politically astute spokesperson; an advocate for the college on the local, state, regional, and national level; have excellent communication skills and a style of transparency and collaboration; be a spokesperson for the college and respect and understand the unique cultural characteristics of Appalachia; and have the capacity to solve problems quickly or re-engineer a new solution quickly. A terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning, and significant senior level administrative leadership experience in a complex organization, are required. It is highly desired that the new President have some teaching experience, particularly in a community college.
