Primary Function of Organization Unit: The mission of the PowerAmerica Institute is to develop advanced manufacturing processes that will enable large-scale production of wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductors, which allow power electronic components to be smaller, faster, more robust and efficient than semiconductors made from silicon. NC State was chosen by the U.S. Department of Energy to lead this $140 million project, which will unite academic, government and industry partners in an effort to revolutionize energy efficiency while facilitating job creation across a wide range of applications, including electronic devices, power grids and electric vehicles.
Essential Job Duties: The Director of Membership and Industry Relations will be the primary interface with existing and prospective members of the PowerAmerica Institute and will service business needs, and manage education and workforce initiatives with PowerAmerica members. The Director supports PowerAmerica's efforts to increase engagement with the local and national research community, and to better address and incorporate community needs in the Institution's academic, research and outreach programs. The Director will manage the Institute's membership program and serve as the primary contact with all members. The incumbent will work with members to ensure they derive the maximum value from their involvement in the Institute. The Director is responsible for growing the Institute's membership, allowing financial sustainability and increased delivery of research outcomes to both industry and academic partners. In collaboration with the PowerAmerica Communications Manager, the Director will manage the communication and branding of the Institute's programs and service offerings to prospective and current members. The incumbent will work closely with the CTO, Director of Education and Workforce, and other Institute staff to devise programs that provide benefits to the memberships and can attract and retain new members. Developing the Institute's value proposition will be a vital duty for the incumbent.
Minimum Education/Experience: Master's degree in a scientific field with substantive relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree with 10 or more years of relevant experience required. Experience in a senior leadership role is required.
Department Required Skills: -Must have a professional presence and maintain cooperative and collegial relations with members including c-suite executives, working level engineers and staff with tact and diplomacy. -Excellent public speaking skills required. Must possess the ability to both present complex financial and technical details, while also leading a discussion. -Must have experience with budgeting, program administration, marketing and professional communication. -Must be able to clearly articulate the value proposition of the Institute to industry.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: -Strongly prefer an advanced degree in a scientific field and at least ten years of experience. -A firm understanding of power electronics and market trends, specifically silicon carbide based semiconductors is preferred.
