The successful candidate will be an experienced, innovative and resourceful administrator with demonstrated strong management skills, who can direct the College on matters of strategic direction, academic policy and resource planning. This individual will provide the vision and energy to partner with an outstanding leadership team including the vice president for academic affairs (VPAA) and dean colleagues to advance Maryville’s mission of access to excellence for a motivated and diverse student body.

The dean will embrace the values of innovation, fiscal responsibility and student centeredness. Together, this energetic and talented community of faculty, staff, students, volunteers and alumni are committed to promoting a revolution in student learning that expands access and opportunities for all.

Maryville University, twice named by U.S. News & World Report as the #1 Overperforming University and currently the 3rd fastest growing university, is located in the west St. Louis County suburb of Town and Country, about 20 miles from downtown St. Louis, Missouri. Core values guide the University in providing a transformative education that prepares students for principled lives, professional achievement and engaged citizenship in the world.

The faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences thoroughly embraces a commitment to an interactive and student centered approach to learning. They are leaders in Maryville’s technologically inventive Digital World pedagogy, empowering students to learn and demonstrate their understanding in creative and individual ways. Undergraduate research is promoted in disciplines across the College not only to deepen students’ academic and professional acumen, but to cultivate independence, curiosity, critical thinking and personal development. Student learning and success is the metric for each academic, professional, community service and international experience.

The dean reports to the vice president for academic affairs. As the chief academic officer of the College, the dean provides intellectual leadership for all academic departments and multi-disciplinary programs, their faculty and staff and budgets. The dean serves as the principal administrator planning and leading the College of Arts and Sciences, ensuring alignment with the University’s strategic plan and the Strategic Academic Identity, encouraging curricular and pedagogical innovation and facilitating and supporting diversity and inclusion.

The dean must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to define a vision for the College within the context of the institutional strategic plan, while developing support for common goals and building relationships across the University.

Applications should include CV, letter of interest and contact information for five professional references. The comprehensive leadership profile is available. Review of completed applicant files will begin March 1 and continue until a successful candidate is identified.  References will not be contacted without prior knowledge of and approval by the candidate. Expected start date for the new dean is June 1, 2018.
