The successful candidate will be an experienced, innovative and resourceful administrator with demonstrated strong management skills, who can direct the College on matters of strategic direction, academic policy and resource planning. This individual will provide the vision and energy to partner with an outstanding leadership team including the vice president for academic affairs (VPAA) and dean colleagues to advance Maryville’s mission of access to excellence for a motivated and diverse student body.

The dean reports to the vice president for academic affairs. As the chief academic officer of the College, the dean provides intellectual leadership for all academic departments and multi-disciplinary programs, their faculty and staff and budgets. The dean serves as the principal administrator planning and leading the College of Arts and Sciences, ensuring alignment with the University’s strategic plan and the Strategic Academic Identity, encouraging curricular and pedagogical innovation and facilitating and supporting diversity and inclusion.

Maryville University seeks highly qualified candidates who have a record of accomplishment in both professional and academic circles; a commitment to excellence in undergraduate liberal arts and professional and graduate education; and an earned terminal degree and qualifications for tenure at the rank of professor is preferred. The dean must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to define a vision for the College within the context of the institutional strategic plan, while developing support for common goals and building relationships across the University.
