Fort Hays State University's Department of Art and Design is seeking applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in Art Education to begin Fall 2018.  We seek an educator, scholar, and artist who will join our team of dynamic nationally and internationally recognized faculty in studio, art history, art education and design. We seek an applicant who will build relationships with colleagues and K-12 educators throughout the state of Kansas.

Successful candidates will:

  • Demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate courses through face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses;
  • Lead the supervision of student teachers and participate in undergraduate outreach programs;
  • Teach supplemental classes in studio art, art history and/or design; 
  • Conduct research for peer-reviewed journals and/or publications and engage in regional/national/internationally recognized creative/professional practice, exhibitions and/or scholarship of interest;
  • Embrace new forms of critically engaged disciplinary practice/scholarship in the field of Art Education;
  • Address the role of assessment and evaluation in art education;
  • Actively participate in departmental, college and university service, recruitment of students into all art programs, student advising, supervise student organizations and participate in sponsored off-campus actives;
  • Work with colleagues within as well as outside of the Department of Art and Design, particularly in building interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • Demonstrate collegiality, professionalism, a strong commitment to teaching excellence and to the department and university missions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: PhD or EdD in Art Education or MFA with intention of pursuing a terminal PhD or EdD in Art Education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Three to five years teaching experience in K-12 art classes.

RANK:  Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Instructor (depending on qualifications).

Teach 12 credit hours per semester with a primary focus in art education and the possibility of supplemental classes in studio art, art history and/or design. Supervise student teachers in the field and participate in the recruitment of students in the Art Education program as well as the department. Demonstrate collegiality, professionalism, a strong commitment to teaching excellence and to the department and university missions. In addition, candidates will be expected to perform departmental and university service and maintain an active scholarly agenda: 60% Teaching, 20% Service, and 20% Scholarship/Research.

The Department of Art and Design at Fort Hays State University offers a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art, Art Education or Art History and a Bachelor of Fine Arts with five concentrations: Graphic Design, Interior Design, Photography, Studio Art (Drawing, Printmaking, Painting, Sculpture, and Ceramics), and Studio Art with Teacher Certification.
