Vice Provost Faculty Affairs
The Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs (VPFA) is responsible for developing the careers of a diverse faculty within a community of inclusive, academic excellence at Emory University.
This role will focus on the complete faculty lifecycle: identifying and supporting best practices around ambitious faculty recruitment, maintaining a program for new faculty orientation, managing the processes around promotion and tenure, developing a robust program around faculty retention, and advocating for a culture that supports high-level research and scholarship. The VPFA is charged with enhancing faculty success, recognizing faculty excellence, cultivating academic leadership, and defining, managing, and clarifying policies and processes related to faculty rights and responsibilities. The VPFA is a member of the Provost's Leadership Team and works closely with deans, associate deans, department chairs, faculty committees, faculty governance, and the university's Office of General Counsel. The VPFA coordinates the university level tenure and promotion review process, organizes and coordinates the Tenure and Promotion Advisory Committee (TPAC), and advises the Provost on all policies and procedures related to faculty recruitment, retention, advancement, and success. The VPFA supervises the activities of the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence, the Emory University Emeritus College and Emory Continuing Education. The VPFA ensures the effectiveness of faculty diversity initiatives and oversees the nomination and recognition of faculty for university, national, and international teaching and research awards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The VPFA will possess credentials appropriate for a tenured appointment at the rank of professor, with a distinguished record of academic achievement and is either currently a full professor on the Emory faculty or has an academic record commensurate with appointment as a tenured professor in one of Emory's nine schools. The VPFA will have experience as an effective and recognized leader, possess the skills necessary to hold a significant leadership position in a multifaceted and complex organization similar in size and scope to Emory, and have broad knowledge of the Emory’s mission, vision, values, and academic policies and procedures. The VPFA will demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence and success, a spirit of creativity, collegiality and innovation, and a commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity. The VPFA will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a clear commitment to work collaboratively on university strategic priorities.
