Postdoctoral Researcher Position - Enzyme Chemistry: Chemistry and Biochemistry
Job Description: The Moran Laboratory at Loyola University Chicago (LUC), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications for a postdoctoral research position, beginning in Spring 2018. The Department offers Ph.D., M.S., and ACS-approved BS degrees. For more details about the department, visit http://www.luc.edu/chemistry. Candidate will be expected to vigorously pursue experimental evidence for the mechanisms of specific enzyme systems and to analyze, develop models and summarize the data that can be incorporated into peer reviewed publications and grant proposals. The candidate should also be willing to contribute to the work of junior scientists in the laboratory and, where possible, assist in their professional development.
Qualifications: Applicants from all areas of biochemistry will be considered. However, preference will be given to candidates whose skills are centered around transient kinetic evidence for enzyme chemical mechanism(s). A Ph.D. in chemistry is required. Preferred skills include experience in protein expression and purification, knowledge of approaches to studying dynamic systems using spectrophotometric signals, particularly stopped-flow and chemical quench methods and knowledge of high performance liquid chromatography and the polymerase chain reaction. More general skills of excellent time management and an objective-focused approach to experiments would also be of benefit. Candidates for the position must also demonstrate that they are willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education.
