Minimum Education/Experience: Experience in an academic health sciences library. ALA accredited Master's Degree in library or information science, preferably with course work or internship in health sciences librarianship. Second Master's Degree or advanced degree in Library Science or a complementary field is highly desirable. A minimum of five years supervisory experience in a library.

Job Duties: This position is responsible for providing overall leadership and management for the User Services Division of Laupus Library. Responsibilities include managing the delivery and enhancement of public services, overall supervision of staff and faculty, short and long term planning, development of policies and procedures, departmental budgeting, and similar and related tasks. This position reports directly to the Associate Director and serves on the Laupus Library Administrative Council. Specific Duties 1.Coordinates, leads, and manages the operations of the Information and Research Services Department. Directly supervises the Head of Access Services to coordinate operations in that department. The work of these departments includes but is not limited to the liaison program, instructional services, circulation services, research services, and outreach services to the 23-county Eastern AHEC region. 2.Monitors patron needs and envisions creative and timely solutions. Sets short and long range goals for Information and Research Services, and for Access Services, and tracks progress. Develops innovative programs, services, and resources in the area of public services. Monitors and evaluates services through collection of appropriate statistics and similar methods. 3.Directly supervises Information and Research Services employees. Responsible for assessing staffing needs, recruitment, development, training, evaluation and scheduling of staff. Examines workflow and staffing patterns, and makes adjustments as needed. Coaches and leads staff and faculty towards achieving personal and institutional goals. 4.Participates in strategic and operational planning for the Library. Contributes ideas for new or improved services in response to patron needs. Develops annual goals and objectives for the Information and Research Services department. Works closely with the Head of Access Services to develop goals for that department. Develops project plans for implementing new initiatives. 5.Chairs the Education Committee and coordinates library instruction and evaluation of both instruction and librarian instructors. Maintains statistics on all library instruction. 6.Directs development and updating of User Services policies and procedures. 7.Prepares budget requests and monitors expenditures for divisional equipment, travel, training and student assistants. 8.Represents the library on university and division committees. Serves on various Laupus Library committees. Leads or participates in appropriate work teams or task forces. Collaborates with appropriate ECU departments and with other appropriate agencies and organizations. Networks with other academic health sciences libraries and contributes to the profession. 9.Participates in scholarly, professional, and service activities commensurate with faculty membership. 10.Maintains professional behavior and ethics. 11.Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.
