Assistant or Associate Professor, Justice, Law & Public Safety

The Department of Justice, Law and Public Safety Studies at Lewis University, invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty member at the Assistant or Associate rank. The department houses majors in Criminal Justice, Forensic Criminal Investigation, and an ABA approved Paralegal degree, as well as graduate degrees in Criminal Justice and Public Safety Administration.

This faculty member will also hold department chair responsibilities. Lewis University faculty teach four courses per semester, but the JLPSS Department Chair receives credit for three courses and is assigned one course per semester. The successful candidate will have teaching, scholarship, service, and administrative duties. This position begins fall 2018.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach one course per semester in one of the Justice Law and Public Safety Studies degree programs

Department Chair

  • Visioning and exploring future opportunities for the Department
  • Supporting recruitment and retention of students
  • Coordinating assessment, programs review, and curricular revision
  • Formulating and managing department budget
  • Supervising and evaluating faculty, program directors and staff in the department
  • Building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships within the University and with external partner

Minimum Requirements:

Doctoral degree in Criminal Justice or related. Prior teaching experience in higher education. Prior academic leadership experience as program director or department chair. Work experience in criminal justice.
