The Department of Manufacturing Engineering in the College of Engineering and Computing invites applications and nominations for three tenure-track assistant or associate professor positions. Applicants with expertise in all areas of Manufacturing Engineering are encouraged to apply, with specific areas of most interest being Robotics and Automation, Instrumentation and Controls, Advanced Machining and Materials Processing, Industrial Systems Engineering, and Materials Science. All positions will be located on the Statesboro campus.

In January 2017, the University System of Georgia Board of Regents voted to consolidate Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University. The new, 27,000-student university will be named Georgia Southern University with campuses in Savannah, Statesboro, and Hinesville. The vision of the recently formed Department of Manufacturing Engineering is to be a leader in manufacturing engineering in the areas of student-centric and application-based teaching, research, and service. Within this setting, the department offers courses in the first undergraduate Manufacturing Engineering program in Georgia and the only comparable program within a 500-mile radius. The department is dedicated to meeting the current and future needs of manufacturers by producing career-ready manufacturing engineers who are prepared in both theory and practice. The Manufacturing Engineering program is widely supported by state government and regional industry enabling well equipped laboratories for teaching and research.

Position Description. Reporting to the chair of the department, the positions require an ability to perform teaching, scholarship, and service responsibilities along with a terminal degree. The successful candidates will be required to: (1) develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses (lecture and laboratory); (2) supervise MS-level theses and undergraduate projects; (3) pursue scholarly activities (including externally-funded research and disseminating it through high quality, peer-reviewed publications); (4) engage in academic mentoring; (5) assist in program assessment and execution of the department's continuous improvement plan; (6) participate in appropriate professional service; and (7) participate in professional activities and organizations. The positions are academic (9/10-month), tenure-track appointments, and the salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
• A terminal degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or Materials Science, or a closely related discipline by August 1, 2018
• Effective English communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses effectively
• Demonstrated potential to conduct funded research in the relevant field
• Minimum of 5 years full-time college/university teaching experience at the assistant professor level is required for the rank of associate professor, along with a strong record of research and service with publications and presentations in professional venues.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Pre-terminal degrees in the disciplines listed above
• Industrial experience
• Preference will be given to candidates with background in the following areas:
Robotics and Automation including robot system research, robotic applications research and development, instrumentation and controls, and advanced manufacturing system software
Advanced Machining and Materials Processing emphasizing machining including micromachining, metal forming and joining, advanced machining, and finishing processes
Materials Science with emphasis on manufacturing and materials processing in metals, composites, plastics, and/or polymers
Industrial Engineering including but not limited to manufacturing facilities design, safety engineering, production quality, and lean manufacturing
