Job Overview: 


The Manager is responsible for analyzing financial information and performing a
variety of accounting duties associated with the timely and accurate preparation and reporting of sponsored project data, in accordance with applicable accounting, industry, regulatory and institutional
principles and policies. The Manager will report to the Research Accounting Services Assistant Director
and will have direct supervision of 2-4 staff members.




Education and experience as outlined
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field required.
Minimum of 3 years work experience in research administration.
Experience in Research Accounting, Post Award Management preferred
experience using Hyperion and Banner
Supervisory experience preferred
Thorough understanding of institutional, state, federal and Uniform Guidance under the Office
of Management and Budget regulations
Experience with mainframe software, PCs and accounting spreadsheet software
Possess organizational and quantitative skills with close attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks concurrently and meet tight deadlines
Ability to effectively communicate financial information


Essential Functions: 


Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sponsor regulations and policies
Understand federal compliance regulations and provide guidance to investigators and
Departmental Administrators
Review and approve no-cost extension requests, obtaining the approval from sponsors as
Monitor and reconcile F&A charges and Fringe Benefit charges on sponsored project funds
Monitor budget variance and determine sponsor approval from terms and conditions of the
Maintain the required financial record for each award
Communicate with internal and external contacts to ensure accuracy of post-award support for
fund administration
Communicate with sponsors and subcontractors regarding contract and/or budget modifications
Operate as a functional liaison in support of individual faculty, principal investigators,
departmental administrators, and others integral to effective management of externally
sponsored awards
Work with principal investigators and administrators to ensure accurate and timely processing
of financial data
Ability to perform fund set-ups and fund modifications when needed
Completes other duties as required
Additional Manager Assigned Duties:
Reconcile sponsored project fund accounts as assigned
Enter transactions into the ledger accurately and timely
Analyze and audit transactions and fund account statements for accuracy
Respond to departmental inquires connected with budgets and expenditures
Supervision of Research Accountants
Assist with drafting of new sponsored project policies and procedures
Identify fund accounting corrections
Provide direction and training to other departmental and University staff on proper sponsored
project accounting policies and procedures
Assist in preparing year-end and interim reports
Run daily reports and identify and discrepancies and take action to rectify them
Develop and present training sessions for the University community
Performs required research and analysis on special projects as assigned
Responsible for accurate and timely financial and statistical reporting


Demonstrates ability to use Microsoft Windows software (Office, Word, Excel, Access, and
Demonstrates proficiency with Banner Finance, COEUS Lite, COEUS Premium, NOLIJ, Hyperion,
and Banner WebFinance
Demonstrates verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
Other duties as assigned
