Serves as Director of Foundation Relations for the Development & Alumni Relations division. Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards regional and national private foundations for the purpose of securing significant gifts and grants for Clemson University. Works in cooperation with administration, faculty, and development officers in University colleges, departments, programs, research centers and institutes to enhance relationships with foundations to increase the number of gifts and grants received by Clemson University. Performs other duties as assigned.


60% - Essential - Fundraising: Provides leadership to and coordinates with administrators, faculty and development officers in University colleges, departments, programs, research centers and institutes to encourage and manage the identification, cultivation, and submission of grant applications to foundations, with the goal of increasing revenue from these constituencies to Clemson University. Serves as a primary manager for a portfolio of regional and national foundations. Cultivates relationships with these foundations, prepares proposals for foundation solicitations, and serves as a team member on other relationship teams. Works closely with the Clemson University Foundation, the Corporate and Foundation Relations team, and other development colleagues in the preparation of grant proposals.

20% - Essential - Foundation Liaison: Serves as the Foundation Relations liaison to the Clemson University Foundation and the Offices for the Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Vice President for Research for the purpose of strategic engagement with private national foundations, coordinating proposal submissions, and grants administration. Works closely with the Office of Sponsored Programs and the Office of Research Development to increase faculty applications to national foundations. Implements and manages proposal review and submission processes for private foundations in collaboration with the Office of Sponsored Programs. Plays a key role in the University limited submission process with the Office of Sponsored Programs and Associate Deans of Research in the colleges.

15% - Essential - Stewardship: Works with Corporate and Foundation Relations staff to effectively steward foundation donors through reports, events, and publicity. Coordinates site visits for foundations, working closely with development officers, faculty, the Clemson University Foundation, and the Office of Sponsored Programs. Arranges and participates in visits to foundations with the President, the Provost, and key administrators.

5% - Essential - Foundation Research: Develops and implements a comprehensive and strategic plan for engaging regional and national foundations in collaboration with Corporate and Foundation Relations team members. Ensures that accurate and up-to-date information is available on foundations. Provides timely analysis of foundation giving trends in order to ensure strategic planning in this area. Provides information to be used by Clemson faculty and program directors aimed at increasing grant awards from private foundations. Monitors and enters all contacts and activity in Raisers Edge in an accurate and timely manner. Compiles and provides information on foundations to development colleagues and faculty members. Manages the Foundation Relations website in coordination with Corporate and Foundation Relations staff members. Serves on departmental and University committees and task forces.


Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of fundraising experience with national foundations
