Full-Time Faculty, Tenure Track, Nursing Instructor
Teaches assigned classes in accordance with the policies of Terra State Community College, and within the schedule of classes, following the course description, syllabus and/or outline as approved by the curriculum committee. Responsible for the supervision of clinical and lab teaching personnel.
Full-time faculty for first and second year students; develops community relationships and monitors students and adjunct faculty for same; participates in strategic planning and implementing same.
All experiences for a nursing student in a clinical setting involving the delivery of nursing care to an individual or group of individuals shall be performed under the direction of a faculty member who functions only as a faculty member during the nursing student's clinical experience.
Salary: Per Union Contract

Work Schedule: 30 hours/week on campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Plans and teaches courses which fulfill the current curriculum goals and objectives.
Assures consistency in the planning, preparation, and administration of the course content, syllabus, outlines, and other teaching materials for courses and lab experiences. Works effectively with students and challenges students appropriately with an acceptable level of civility and discourse.
Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives. Collects and maintains assessment documentation.
Assesses curriculum in assigned program or discipline and recommends needed changes.
Attends meetings with other assigned course instructors for assessment planning and evaluation of course and program effectiveness.
Determines and submits students' grades in accordance with established College policies and procedures. Evaluates student's achievement and progress according to the standards and procedures established by the nursing program and assigns course grades, with input from the teaching assistant, clinical faculty and/or preceptor. Communicates progress in the course to students in a timely manner.
Establishes clinical objectives or outcomes within the framework of the course in which the student is enrolled and clarifies the clinical evaluation tool in conjunction with clinical faculty.
Designs the student's clinical experience to include the stated objectives or outcomes in conjunction with clinical faculty. Designs and implements teaching strategies that will assist a nursing student to meet the course objectives or outcomes.
Collaborates with clinical faculty, teaching assistants, and preceptors to implement the clinical objectives and course outcomes throughout the clinical experience.
Clarifies with clinical faculty the role of the teaching assistant and preceptor, if utilized, and the responsibilities of the course faculty.
Coordinates the activities of the clinical and laboratory teaching assistants, and/or preceptors.
Orients, monitors, and mentors preceptors.
Reports potential problems or any problems occurring in a clinical site to the Director of Nursing.
Identifies and reports any issues or potential issues with students to the Director of Nursing.
Provides assistance relative to the didactic, laboratory or clinical components of the nursing courses and is available to students by telephone, email, and/or appointment to answer questions.
Provides guidance and expertise to other programs, adjunct or clinical faculty in accordance with the faculty member's current rank. Works with a high degree of morale and satisfaction with those engaged in doing the work. Provides consultation and advice to clinical teaching personnel, faculty, teaching assistants and preceptors as requested.
Participates in activities that enhance professional skills and development. Demonstrates continuing professional development as an educator and participates in the faculty evaluation processes.
Maintains posted office hours in accordance with division and College policies.
Participates effectively in campus councils, committees, task forces, or work groups. Participates in regular advisory board meetings. Participates in and contributes to division and program meetings.
Supports the mission of the program, division, and College. Actively participates in community organizations, service groups, or events sponsored by the campus for the community.
Other Skills and Abilities: • Must be able to use electronic equipment for teaching and communication.
Required Education and/or Work Experience: • Completion of an approved professional nursing education program.
• Experience for at least two years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse.
• A master's degree. If the individual does not possess a bachelor of science in nursing degree, the master's or other professional degree, including but not limited to a Ph.D., shall be in nursing. If the individual possesses a bachelor of science in nursing, the master's degree may be, but is not required to be, in nursing.
• Current active licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
• Current active license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio required.
• CPR certification required.
• ACLS/PALS/BTLS/ATLS CERTIFICATION as required by nursing specialty.
• Specialty certification in area of expertise is preferred but not required.
• Professional liability insurance.
