Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Department of MSE is recognized as one of the premier national and international academic and research programs. The Department contains 27 tenure/tenure-track faculty members, 2 teaching faculty and 11 research staff, 20 postdoctoral fellows, and about 300 graduate and undergraduate students. The faculty perform cutting-edge research, teach and provide international leadership in diverse areas of materials research, including electronic, dielectric, optical, magnetic, and structural materials, metallurgy, nanoscience/nanotechnology, soft matter, biological materials, structural characterization, and computational materials.
Essential Job Duties: The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at North Carolina State University seeks applications/nominations for new faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor (tenure/tenure-track). The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at North Carolina State University seeks an outstanding individual specializing in the science of engineering of electroceramic materials for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position. We are highly interested in candidates with demonstrated excellence in the design, synthesis and processing of innovative materials for dielectric, electro-optical, electrochemical, piezoelectric or other functional applications. Successful candidates will have achieved or be on a trajectory for international prominence and leadership in their research field and have the vision and skills to lead collaborative, multidisciplinary research efforts. Furthermore, we value individuals who have a commitment to fostering creative teaching and instructional methods to enhance our undergraduate and graduate curricula. MSE faculty participate in a variety of interdisciplinary and inter-institutional centers, such as NSF Advanced Self-Powered Systems of Integrated Sensors and Technologies (ASSIST) Nanosystems Engineering Research Center, NSF Research Triangle MRSEC, NSF Research Triangle Nanotechnology Network (RTNN), PowerAmerica, and the NSF Center for Dielectrics and Piezoelectric (CDP). Shared research facilities, including the Analytical Instrumentation and Nanofabrication Facilities, provide state-of-the-art infrastructure to propel materials research on campus. Minimum Education/Experience: Qualified candidates must hold a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, or in a related science or engineering discipline at the time of appointment.
Department Required Skills: - Senior candidates must have clear international standing, an exceptional record of publishing and external funding, and a demonstrated record of scientific excellence and leadership. - Junior candidates must demonstrate promise towards similar achievements. - All candidates must possess the ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Materials Science & Engineering.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: - Candidates with exceptional communication skills and the ability and commitment to work in synergistic, interdisciplinary research programs are preferred. - Outstanding candidates with expertise in all areas of materials science and engineering will be considered, however, candidates with expertise in area of electronic ceramics are of particular interest.
