The Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs (VPFA), reporting directly to the Provost, provides leadership in an integrated approach to the recruitment, development and retention of faculty. The VPFA works closely with faculty to enhance opportunities for faculty professional development, to support and retain a diverse faculty, oversees promotion and tenure processes and works to enhance the faculty work climate. The VPFA must build strong working relationships with deans and department chairs, and regularly advises on matters of faculty policy, grievances and other elements important to faculty at Pacific. The VPFA is the essential conduit between the Office of the Provost and the faculty, and therefore must understand how to successfully navigate complex issues with sensitivity, maturity and creativity. As part of the Provost's senior management team, the VPFA will perform other leadership and management responsibilities as required.
This is a full-time renewable appointment.
1. Assumes a leadership role in responding to faculty with general or specific concerns that arise from faculty climate surveys, shared governance structures and other mechanisms, through frequent communication, relationship building and the development of innovative organizational plans to attend to these concerns.
2. Committed to improving the academic work environment for faculty in order to facilitate innovative and collaborative approaches for teaching, scholarship and service.
3. Supports faculty success by oversight and development of new faculty orientation, mentoring initiatives, leadership development, and other faculty development initiatives including faculty development leave.
4. Facilitates the faculty tenure and promotions process by ensuring compliance with established policies.
5. Oversees the collection, analysis and dissemination of faculty and program data in support of the Provost’s priorities.
6. Supervises the Assistant Provost for Diversity and supports her work to improve the recruitment and retention of a diverse faculty, to support faculty from historically underrepresented groups and to support an environment of inclusive excellence.
7. Develops, implements and evaluates programs to recognize and celebrate faculty achievements.
8. As a member of the Provost’s leadership team, works collaboratively with the leadership of the Academic Division to ensure that the Division’s priorities and strategies are effectively implemented.
9. Works with faculty, deans and other impacted constituents to develop and update faculty affairs policies as needed to ensure best practices.
10. Collaborates with the Vice Provost for Strategy and Educational Effectiveness to support educational effectiveness initiatives.
11. Facilitates the faculty grievance processes and works with faculty to informally resolve conflicts and issues. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with the University Ombudsperson and Title IX coordinator.

Valid driver’s license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University’s fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
