St. Bonaventure University ( is accepting nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA). Reporting to the President and a member of the President’s Cabinet, the VPSA serves as the Chief Student Affairs Officer, provides creative vision and leadership for all student affairs departments, programs and activities and is responsible for the strategic direction, planning, assessment and leadership of the Student Affairs Division. The VPSA is responsible for comprehensive student services planning, policy development, and budget development/management, which may include, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • Center for Activities, Recreation and Leadership
  • Residential Living & Student Conduct
  • Center for Student Wellness
  • Career & Professional Readiness Center
  • Safety & Security


  • Develop and implement programs that support and enhance student success and retention
  • Develop and supervise plans to improve facilities and operational efficiency within the Student Affairs division.
  • Recommend and implement plans and policies to facilitate and improve operations
  • Oversee the development and administration of operating budgets and staff for assigned functional areas
  • Serve as the appeal authority for the Student Code of Conduct and judicial process
  • Ensuring compliance to all state and federal agencies, including Title IX compliance
  • Plan and execute the December recognition ceremony and University commencement activities
  • Oversee the University’s relationship with local, state and federal agencies for the University’s Emergency Preparedness Plan
  • Monitor institutional security operations, policies and crime statistics
  • Serve on the following Committees:
  • Board of Trustees Student Affairs
  • Board of Trustees Compliance, Risk Management and Legal Issues Committee
  • Faculty Senate Student Affairs Committee
  • Other duties as assigned by the University President.

  • Promote and support a diverse, multicultural community
  • Lead initiatives that help to create a welcoming and supportive culture where all students feel valued
  • Work collaboratively with the President and campus administrators in leading the University and ensuring the overall health, recreation, social needs, and success of the student body while championing the success of the strategic plan
  • Focus, guide and lead direct reports in accomplishing objectives, setting goals, aligning and tracking performance, and acting decisively in order to successfully achieve the University’s strategic initiatives
  • Demonstrate commitment to our academic programs serving undergraduate and graduate students
  • Provide executive leadership and analytical thought process to decision-making and have successful interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration, operational improvements and the implementation of administrative best practices
  • Demonstrate considerable knowledge of academic, administrative programs and faculty management
  • Possess considerable knowledge of modern principles of student leadership, management and supervisory methods, practices, and techniques
  • On call responsibilities include; twenty-four (24) hour per day availability, responding to crisis, emergency and intervention
  • The ability to travel locally and nationally for University business
  • Adhere to the governing documents, policies and procedures established by St. Bonaventure University
  • Engage in meaningful and intentional professional development
  • Provide clear guidelines and assistance to committees and administrative efforts focused on student-centered initiatives
  • Ability to shift between tasks without loss of continuity while balancing priorities to accomplish assigned tasks within the required time frame
  • Express timely and accurate communication with administration, faculty, students and community members
  • Establish and maintain an effective communication & working relationships with internal and external constituents

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution is required; doctorate degree preferred
  • Five plus years of successful experience in academic administration, including the supervision of staff and the development and oversight of budgets
  • Significant experience working with senior executives in institutions of higher education
  • Ability to handle highly confidential material to maintain integrity and confidentiality of data and to exercise and apply sound judgment and decision-making skills
