ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF THE INTERNATIONAL MPA
Duties: The Associate Director is responsible for assisting with the development, implementation and teaching for the International Master of Public Administration (I-MPA), co-directing the Summer Global Leadership and Problem-Solving (GLPS) program, and contributing to research and program development for Fox Leadership International (FLI).
The duties associated with the I-MPA program, which will launch in August 2018, include the support of enrollment growth through marketing, recruitment, and admissions. More specifically, the Associate Director represents the program at recruitment events, interviews prospective students and applicants, and participates in the admissions decision-making process. In addition, the Associate Director develops and delivers student services (including academic and internship advising) and co-plans and delivers I-MPA special events. The Associate Director also teaches or co-teaches 1-2 courses per year for the I-MPA.
As part of the FLI program team, the Associate Director co-coordinates all aspects of the Summer Global Leadership and Problem-Solving (GLPS) program, which is a residential global leadership program for 60-100 Chinese undergraduates that is offered every year. The Associate Director co-leads the development of program content; plans and schedules program events; arranges for access to University services and facilities for participants; develops and implements systems to communicate program information to prospective and current students; oversees the budget; and performs other activities as assigned.
With the Faculty Director and other members of the Fox leadership International (FLI) staff, the Associate Director develops and executes research projects especially as they relate to global food security and/or eldercare and participates in new project development for FLI.
The Associate Director co-supervises Fox Leadership International junior staff.

The Associate Director position is shared between Fox Leadership International (FLI) and the College of Liberal and Professional Studies (LPS), both part of Penn's School of Arts and Sciences, and directly supports strategic international program collaboration between FLI and LPS. The Associate Director reports to the Faculty Director of the Fox Leadership International Program and secondarily to the Vice Dean of the College of Liberal and Professional Studies. On a day to day basis, the Associate Director reports primarily to the Executive Director of the Fox Leadership Program and secondarily to the Director of Implementation, Assessment and International Initiatives of the College of Liberal and Professional Studies.
Qualifications: A Master's Degree and 5 years to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience are required. A Ph.D. degree in public administration or political science and 10-15 years' work experience, preferably in an international higher education setting, are strongly preferred. Applicant must have teaching experience in higher education as well as demonstrated international research experience including multiple publications, preferably on elder care policies, global food security issues, non-governmental organizations, or public-private partnerships. Applicant must also have at least 10 years of experience consulting on international or multi-national projects with non-governmental organizations.
The candidate must also have proven organizational and leadership skills including effective communication of vision, goals, expectations and performance feedback; demonstrated success in implementing strategic and management goals; excellent communication skills, both written and oral; experience interacting with international students; and, a successful track record of working as part of a team. Ability to travel internationally on an as needed basis is required, along with some evening and weekend work.
