Student Support Specialist for Students with Disabilities (Reg PT 25 hrs/wk)

General Summary:
Provides accommodations and assistive technology support for students with disabilities.

Work location and additional information:
This position will remain open until filled. Job Specifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, education or related field and a minimum of one year experience. Broad knowledge, understanding and proficiency of assistive or adaptive technology. Ability to communicate and interact with parents, faculty, staff and outside agencies. Good customer service, communication, writing, reading and organization skills. Ability to understand how learning can be affected by disabilities and provide appropriate accommodations. Ability to work with students of all disabilities. Computer experience and knowledge

Job Duties:
1. Assesses students through interviews, documentation and academic monitoring to evaluate appropriateness of accommodations and to determine what adaptive academic services are required.
2. Develops individual accommodation plans for students with disabilities.
3. Provides technical support for adaptive services such as alternative format textbooks, alternate format/modified testing and software.
4. Assists students with improving and maintaining academic performance by conducting one on one training and facilitated study skills sessions.
5. Requests, administers, supervises and returns classroom exams; administers placement exams.
6. Develops and implements emergency evacuation plans for students.
7. Maintains files and documents services provided to students.
8. Recommends, requests and obtains resources, materials and technology necessary for students; procures classroom furniture.
9. Trains students and staff on assistive technologies.
10. Attends training workshops.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
