This is a supervisory field position that will require some office work. Position is immediate supervisor for shift, and responsibility includes assisting the shift commander on patrols, investigations, and the performance of special duties of comparable responsibility. Will be required to obtain specialized training certifications such as radar investigations, etc. Will be required to work days/night and swing shift. Sergeant will be assigned collateral duties and responsibility as designated by Command Staff under the direction of the Chief of Police. 

Inspects equipment, employee appearance and completes a yearly performance evaluation for employees. Will be required to assist in training new officers under his or her supervision and ensures subordinates are informed on new information in shift briefings. Must be able to conduct workshops and presentations for the campus community. Ensure monthly reports are provided to supervisor, and ensure all documents are turned in and reviewed in a timely manner.  

Training and Experience:

Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent required. Must be able to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) and prepare comprehensive records and reports. Must have at least two years of law enforcement experience. 

You must be employed with the department for 12 months to be eligible. (For Internal employees) 

(External Applicants) Must have Certification by the Georgia Peace Officers' Standards and Training Council (GA Law 92A-2100 amended) and experience with a law enforcement or public safety agency  

Testing Requirements:

Must pass psychological exam.  

Illustrative Examples of Work:

Patrols and enforces laws on Albany State University Campus. Enforce city, state codes, ordinances and regulations, in order to provide security and protection for the campus community at large. Patrol the campus on foot, golf carts, bicycle, ATV and patrol car. Answer calls for service involving parking violations, fire, traffic accidents, reports criminal activities, and provide security for all campus activities such as athletic events, student events, outside requests for A.S.U. building usage, etc. Officer is expected to conduct hourly security checks through campus buildings especially the residence halls. Officer will be required to enforce traffic laws and ordinances within a 500 yard buffer zone around A.S.U. campus. 

Investigate crimes, interview potential witnesses, victim's suspects and confidential informants. Must be able to process crime scenes and gather reserve evidence. Determine probable cause to search and/or reasonable suspicion to detain suspects and make arrests when necessary. Respond to emergency calls and calls for assistance. Perform the functions of first responder to any threatening situation on campus. Officer will be required to participate in campus workshops for the campus community. Must support any and all police community oriented concepts. Will be required to work various shift rotations
