Job Summary

The Department Chairperson provides academic leadership, supervision and strategic development for a comprehensive cybersecurity department that competes on a national level with a cutting edge curriculum that is responsive to current and future industry needs This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides academic leadership in the cybersecurity department to include the identification of emerging industry needs, the development of industry appropriate curriculum, market and industry relevancy of programs, faculty assignments and schedules
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively with the Deans of Faculty and Vice Provost of Academic Schools and serves as an integral member of the College and Campus administrative teams
  • Hires, supervises, evaluates personnel and provides professional development opportunities for all employees in the department
  • Ensures the effective implementation of the faculty advancement process and provides support, advice and ensures adherence to the collective bargaining agreement
  • Teaches at least one (1) course within the discipline per academic year
  • Establishes and evaluates departmental policies and procedures, ensures departmental compliance with SACS accreditation guidelines and also participates in the development and implementation of College policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Supervises the development and/or revision of curricula, implements student-centered instructional programs in the classrooms/labs, facilitates learning, quality teaching, scholarships and services to ensure student success in the application and implication of cybersecurity program
  • Evaluates and assesses marketing communication strategies in relation to the collective bargaining agreement
  • Actively markets cybersecurity programs and establishes effective recruitment strategies
  • Monitors and ensures success with increasing student enrollment, retention, graduation and job placement rates
  • Provides program information and ensures the availability of advisement services for students
  • Facilitates the resolution of issues and problems that may arise between faculty, staff and students
  • Prepares and maintains departmental budgets
  • Serves on Campus and College-wide committees
  • Performs other related duties as required

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field from a regionally accredited institution and five (5) years of relevant work experience in managing and directing corporate programs
  • All educational degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of a wide range of instructional systems development, training methods, techniques and formats
  • Knowledge of the requirements of accreditation agencies
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Skill in budget preparation and management
  • Skill in computer applications
  • Ability to supervise and train assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to demonstrate a record of progressive achievements in the field with tangible results
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with faculty, staff, and students

Essential Position

This function/position has been designated as “essential.” This means that when the College is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at the College.
