PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Claremont Lincoln University is an online, learning-centered, graduate institution committed to creative, effective, and action-oriented education that offers three M.A. degrees in Social Impact, Interfaith Action, and Organizational Leadership (concentrations: Healthcare, Human Resources, Civic Engagement, and Ethics). Rooted in the andragogical foundations of holistic education, the University embraces approaches to 21st century graduate-level instruction that are interdisciplinary, experimental, and experiential. As such, students at Claremont Lincoln engage in dialogical learning processes that foster mutual understanding, respect, growth, and collaboration across cultural, national, ideological, ethical, and religious traditions.
To be effective in this endeavor, teaching faculty are expected to bring intellectual and andragogical abilities to bear on the development of learning-focused programs and the effective facilitation of learning that supports the desired educational outcomes and mission of the University. Faculty will teach courses according to the University’s curricular and andragogical standards, using the materials (namely texts, course guide, syllabus) designated for the course.
Teaching faculty provide most of the instruction for Claremont Lincoln learners and can be selected to participate in curriculum design and committee work. Members of the Teaching Faculty are contracted on a course-by-course basis and are needed in the following areas:
Human Resources Leadership
Claremont Core (Mindfulness, Dialogue, Collaboration, Change)
RESPONSIBILITIES: All responsibilities are presumed to reflect the effective implementation of best practices. Technology will be leveraged as an enabler whenever practical. Internal controls will be installed to ensure that all activities comply with acknowledged standards of fiduciary due care, non-conflicts of interest and confidentiality.
- Deliver online instruction for all assigned classes;
- Abide by FERPA regulations;
- Abide by protocol set forth in University’s Faculty Guidelines;
- Evaluate and assign grades to students;
- Submit requested information with strict adherence to established time lines;
- Maintain student attendance and grading records according to academic policy;
- As a scholar-practitioner, relates professional/life/industry experience to learning by the continuation of professional skill development, the introduction of industry perspective into courses, and the active awareness of professional/industry trends and opportunities;
- Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles and views;
- Utilizing Canvas Learning Management System, administer the course by logging into the course, reviewing and participating in the discussion posts, and completing all grading of the discussion posts and assignments within one week of the due date of the assignment;
- Use all learning outcomes, signature assignments, readings, course format, and deadlines outlined in the syllabus;
- Facilitate learning in the course by engaging with the students in the discussion boards and guiding the conversation for deeper learning and analysis at least every two days;
- Continually elevate the quality, character, and effectiveness of learning in individual courses, in the design of the curricula in which they participate, and in the promotion of the University and its ideals to advance a graduate culture;
- Participate in University academic committee work as invited; and
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in program area(s) or related field of study from a regionally accredited college or university;
- Terminal degree (Ph.D., J.D., Ed.D.) preferred; and
- Commitment to teaching excellence required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- At least one year of teaching experience at the college or university level;
- Must be familiar with interactive teaching methods and instruction via the Internet; and
- Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
