Coordinator, New Student and Transition Programs
Develop and manage new student support and retention-based programs for freshmen, transfer, commuter students, adult learners, and student in transitional phases of their university experience. Responsible for strategic planning, program development, budget, marketing, technical operations, and student staff development and supervision.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and implement Fast Track, New Student Orientation, Transfer Orientation and other programs and services for new students. Participate in the planning, development and marketing of diversified activities for new students and for students in transitional phases of their university experience. Collaborate with institutional partners to contribute toward a comprehensive, substantive first year experience at EMU. Establish effective relationships and coordinate services with University departments. Participate in cross-divisional strategic planning to achieve University goals. Represent the department on campus and community committees, and on regional/national organizations as appropriate. Represent the department at campus-wide recruitment events. Engage in appropriate research and assessment on new and first year student needs. Conduct learning assessments, program evaluations and student interest surveys on a regular basis. Develop databases and other records necessary to maintain longitudinal data on the efficacy of the programs. Recruit, train, schedule, provide direction for and evaluate student staff, student volunteers and program participants. Ensure diversity in programs and services, marketing materials and staffing. Negotiate contracts and ensure university compliance with all legal agreements. Coordinate and supervise all logistical, technical and event management operations. Develop marketing strategies and provide direction for the creation and dissemination of public-relations and marketing materials promoting programs to the campus and surrounding communities, including use of website and web-based tools, newsletters and campus-wide media outlets. Develop and manage budgets for programs and services. Administer programs within assigned fiscal resources. Manage appropriate collection and deposit of cash funds for ticketed events. Actively seek opportunities to raise funds in support of the program and/or department, including grants, sponsorships and individual gifts. Ensure adequate and appropriate use of electronic and web-based technology in programs, services, and marketing. Advise walk-in students on new student programs and services and make appropriate referrals. Operate within and enforce relevant department and university policies and procedures. Develop alumni databases, maintain positive relations with and involve alumni of the department. Perform related duties, as required.
A Master's Degree in College Student Personnel or Higher Education Administration is required. A minimum of three years of professional work experience in an institution of higher education, planning and implementing student activities, academic advising, orientation or first-year experience programs and services is necessary. Proven experience programming for and/or managing large, diverse groups of college students, student volunteers, and student employees is necessary. Experience in basic fiscal management such as developing and managing program budgets is necessary. Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary. Excellent management, leadership, detail-oriented organizational skills and time management skills are necessary. Demonstrated ability to use basic and some advanced functions of Mac and Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Google Apps, the internet and web-based forms is necessary. Familiarity with OrgSync or a similar student engagement platform is a plus. Must be willing to work irregular and flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
