College of Arts and Science (Office of the Dean): Academic Advisor to provide individual academic advising for students in the College of Arts and Science and University Studies Program.
Provide individual academic advising to undergraduate students, assist in academic planning, and connect advisees with appropriate university resources as necessary; assist in the planning, implementation, or assessment of academic advising programs relating to specific student populations, such as: new students (orientation programs), University Studies (undeclared majors), international, transfer, and prospective students; participate in academic intervention and outreach efforts for “at-risk” students; assist in developing individual and departmental long-range plans and objectives; participate in Office of Admission recruitment and yield events by representing the College to prospective students and their families; utilize career development resources to assist students with identifying an appropriate major; teach a first-year experience course (UNV 101: I am Miami); serve as a resource for faculty and other professional advisors across the University; participate on committees, intra-office working groups, or special projects; other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean.
Require: Master’s degree, which must be completed at the time of application; two or more years of advising experience in a university or college setting, this includes academic, career, study abroad, or other related areas, may include experience gained during a related graduate program. Position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship. Desire: Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, college student personnel, or related field; understanding of student development theory; experience working with diverse student populations; understanding of the purpose and advantages of a liberal arts education; excellent written and oral communication (including public speaking), organization, technological and collaborative skills; experience with tools such as native Banner, DARs, Student Success Collaborative (Campus), and transferology.com.
