Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NC State University Plants for Human Health Institute (PHHI) is an established Institute located on the NC Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC. The PHHI is a transdisciplinary department based in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences composed of 12 research faculty members from Animal Science, Horticulture, Plant and Microbial Sciences, and Food Bioprocessing and Nutritional Sciences. In addition to the research faculty, the PHHI houses extension associates, post docs, graduate students and support staff for the mission of leading the discovery and delivery of innovative plant-based solutions to advance human health.

Essential Job Duties: The NC State Plants for Human Health Institute (PHHI) located at the NC Research Campus (NCRC) in Kannapolis, NC is seeking to fill the position of Director for Business Operations. Under the direction of the Institute's Scientific Director, Dr. Mary Ann Lila, the PHHI is looking for a proactive and energetic business director that can lead, manage and strategically enhance the sustainability and success of the business operations, financial management, human resource recruitment, special project initiatives, and support sponsored program research areas. This position will be the primary liaison for the residential PHHI faculty. The position will be responsible for interfacing with the appropriate NCSU university offices on behalf of the institute in order to support the management of all financial accounts including appropriated funding sources, sponsored programs, service centers, internal funding, F&A Recovery, gift accounts, endowments, consortium funding and other special initiative projects. This position will also oversee an administrative staff that collectively supports the functions for all human resources actions, bookkeeping / account management, operations and maintenance, housekeeping, faculty house and greenhouse operations, various IT functions, and inventory management. Essential job duties include, but are not limited to: Human Resources * Direct and supervise all administrative units and staff regarding all operational activities to support development efforts and institute operations. * Implement program hires, recruitment strategies, and handle personnel issues on all levels of investigation and resolution. * Process hiring actions, salary redistributions, recruitment operations, VISA support services, and termination actions. Financial Management * Monitor and prepare monthly reports for tracking approximately $12M in cost allocations, billing status, subcontract monitoring, and maintenance of staffing levels. * Perform budget projections and set targets and metrics for growth, expansion, research funding, collaborations. * Leverage account management, spending of gift, state appropriated and sponsored funds to support logistical, and streamlined operational activities. * Financial management for various funding sources associated with the build out, up fit, equipment, and operations management for the Food Processing and Innovation Center. Operations * Develop, implement and oversee Institute processes for all aspects of operational logistics. * Conduct internal assessments and apply quality improvement principles to increase effectiveness for the Institute's internal processes and support programs. * Prepare reporting data and presentation materials for Senior Administration and University Vice Chancellor Level outreach and collaboration efforts. * Work in coordination with other university partners and the UNC General Administration to leverage resources and increase effectiveness of university collaboration. Administration Program Coordination * Work with undergraduate institutions to align credit /funding options for summer internship programs in coordination with consortium-funded work. * Identify and develop funding opportunities to expand and sustain program operations and strategy. * Manage consortium and gift funding to support the program. * Prepare and document consortium leadership and members to facilitate program based needs. * Manage and coordinate supervision of summer based activities and resources including undergraduate internship, research modules, group based events, and the annual research summer symposium. *This position is located in Kannapolis, NC.*

Minimum Education/Experience: * Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline with at least 5 years of professional experience managing projects, as well as fiscal and human resources.

Department Required Skills: * Financial reporting, sponsored research, human resources, facility management, and budget management skills. * Effective in MS Office suite. * Strategic planning coordination and implementation experience. * Logistical space and resource management experience.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Master's degree in public administration, finance, management, business administration, or a related discipline, with relevant experience in a scientific discipline or experience working with research faculty members. * Research Administration experience is preferred in order to be able to support contract and grants pre-award managers, senior administration, faculty and staff in contract and grant proposal submission, contract negotiation, awards management and matters of federal and state regulatory compliance. * Working knowledge of Federal Circulars A-110, A-133, and A-122. * Pre- and Post- Award Management experience. * Experience in higher education setting. * Oversight of Federal, Private, Endowment, appropriated funding sources. * Experience supervising and developing staff members through performance leadership.

Necessary Licenses and Certifications: * A valid drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
