Job Summary          

The Director is responsible for the artistic vision and operational success of Teatro Prometeo.  Founded more than 45 years ago, Teatro Prometeo continues to remain a true cultural treasure, celebrating Spanish language and Hispanic culture through high quality theater productions and education with a social purpose, while supporting new, cutting edge work. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

    Duties & Responsibilities          

  • Oversees the artistic, budget, staffing and administrative operations of Prometeo
  • Provides the vision and artistic direction for all Prometeo events and performances
  • Determines the season of performances, selecting plays, directors, actors as appropriate
  • Creates workshops and other educational opportunities that complement the performances and vision of Prometeo
  • Creates and manages Prometeo’s operational and production budgets for  Prometeo Theatre productions and events while ensuring financial compliance according to current laws and College standards, and ensuring sound financial management of department’s resources
  • Produces detailed financial settlements for all Prometeo events       
  • Hires and supervises designers, production staff and student assistants to ensure high quality productions for Prometeo events, and manages contracts for hired personnel and partners
  • Develops and ensures timely execution of marketing initiatives for Prometeo productions and workshops
  • Supervises all box office operations, student registrations and contracted services and vendors
  • Researches, writes and manages grants
  • Creates and compiles anecdotal and statistical information for final reporting purposes such as surveys and evaluations
  • Ensures compliance to MDC policies and procedures, including safety and compliance issues, and maintains a professional administration environment
  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Minimum Requirements          

  • Master’s degree in Theatre or related field from a regionally accredited institution and three (3) years of experience in theatrical production/stage management; or Bachelor’s degree in Theatre or related field from a regionally accredited institution and seven (7) years of experience in theatrical production/stage management
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of current trends in Hispanic theatre
  • Ability to communicate in both Spanish and English
  • Skills in organizational management as well as theater and event production
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office software and specific computer programs related to area of responsibility
  • Possess excellent organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions for reporting purposes
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff
