Reporting to the Dean of Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance, the Women’s Golf Coach is a part-time faculty position in the Athletic Department. The assignment entails coaching the Varsity Women’s Golf team and all aspects related to the Golf program. Assignment of off-season conditioning and team courses based on applicant meeting minimum qualifications or equivalency in Kinesiology.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position. 1. Coach and administer all aspects of the Intercollegiate Women’s Golf Program

2. Select, train, and supervise assistant coaching and game operations staff

3. Motivate and guide student athletes to achieve academic success and assist in their matriculation to the four-year level and/or in meeting their vocational training goals

4. Evaluate, plan, and coordinate all programs relevant to the success of student athletes in the Intercollegiate Golf Program

5. Oversee preparation of the schedule

6. Monitor and stay within the assigned budget

7. Engage in approved fundraising activities to supplement the program budget

8. Assist in the identification, procurement, and inventory of supplies and equipment for the Intercollegiate Women’s Golf Program

9. Ensure all facilities and modes of transportation are used safely and maintained properly

10. Promote the Intercollegiate Women’s Golf Program within the community and our contiguous recruiting areas through recruiting, public appearances, promotional efforts, community service, camps, clinics, etc.

11. Observe all San Mateo County Community College District (SMCCCD) Board Policies and Procedures

12. Comply with all California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), Coast Conference, and college rules, regulations, and policies

Minimum Qualifications:
• Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in physical education or kinesiology plus two years of coaching experience OR an Associate’s degree plus six years of coaching experience, OR the equivalent (see below)• Experience coaching golf at the youth, club, high school, community college, or four-year college level• Demonstrated sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff• Ability to work as a member of a team and collaborate with the Dean, Administrative Assistant, Athletic Trainers, Instructional Aide and all colleagues on campus to support students and develop a strong Intercollegiate Women’s Golf Program• Ability to mentor students effectively and be a role model in terms of behavior, decorum, and ethics• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License or ability to obtain one

Equivalence to Minimum Qualifications:

Degree Equivalence

The applicant possesses a degree(s) with similar content to those listed for the relevant discipline. The name of the degree is close to that specified on the Disciplines List but the degree either has a different title or area of expertise or the coursework is slightly different.

Academic Background Equivalence

Related to disciplines in which a Master’s Degree is not generally expected or available. The applicant must have completed at least 24 semester units of coursework in the academic field and must possess at least the equivalent level of achievement and the equivalent in breadth, depth of understanding, and rigor in each of the following:

i) a broad cultural education usually met by the general education requirements for any Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree, and

ii) a detailed study of the discipline in breadth, depth, and rigor, usually met by course work required for the degree major.

Professional Achievement Equivalence

The applicant must have completed the General Education requirements for that degree and show evidence of outstanding professional achievement and/or substantial training in the requested field. The applicant must submit substantial evidence, which demonstrates that his/her preparation, teaching experience, work experience, and ability are equivalent to those expected from a person who meets the minimum qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Successful experience in coaching at the club level or higher

2. Demonstrated ability to recruit

3. Demonstrated ability in managing the various aspects of a golf program, including, but, not limited to, academic advisement, budget, coaching, compliance, evaluation, facilities, fundraising, marketing, operations, scheduling, and student support

4. Ability to plan and direct the conditioning, training, practice, match, and behavioral conduct of all student-athletes in the program

5. Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and promote an intercollegiate golf program

6. Evidence of continued professional development or involvement in the sport of women’s golf

7. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff

8. Ability to communicate effectively with all people, including persons of diverse cultures and language groups and people who have disabilities

9. Ability to work cooperatively with others in a team environment

10. Ability, interest, and willingness to develop and maintain working relationships with club, high school, and four year coaches so as to recruit, retain, and matriculate student-athletes

11. Willingness to work with students having a wide range of skills, motivation, athletic, academic, or vocational goals

12. Ability to evaluate collegiate level athletic prospects

13. Familiarity with current guidelines governing Intercollegiate Women’s Golf (CCCAA, NCAA, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree or above in exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adaptive physical education, OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND a Master’s degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy
