The University of Alaska Anchorage is a Carnegie classified community engagement university located in Anchorage, Alaska. It comprises the Anchorage Campus located in the heart of Alaska's largest city, as well as Kenai Peninsula College, Matanuska-Susitna College, Kodiak College and Prince William Sound College, all located in some of the most beautiful places in Alaska. Over 14,000 students are enrolled on the Anchorage campus and nearly 4,000 are enrolled in the four community campuses, making it the largest institution of higher learning in the University of Alaska system, as well as the state. The University of Alaska Anchorage traces its origins back to 1954, five years before Alaska became the 49th U.S. state. More than 100 programs, ranging from certificate programs to associate, baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degrees are offered at campuses in Anchorage and community campuses and extension centers throughout Southcentral Alaska.

Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Services, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Admissions, Recruitment and Marketing (AVC) is expected to develop and implement an integrated marketing and recruitment strategy for new undergraduate students while overseeing a holistic admissions process. In addition to researching and analyzing potential growth markets and incorporating them into a successful marketing and recruitment plan, the AVC will develop a recruitment strategy which is inclusive of all events, including key community functions. The AVC will develop recruitment goals and projections and collaborate with enrollment services, faculty and academic staff to achieve these goals as well as provide strong leadership in benchmarking, innovation, change management, use of technology and continuous quality improvement. Supervising and managing a team of six direct reports and a total of 20+ staff members in the operations, recruitment and marketing areas, the AVC will also be responsible for managing a complex operating budget and analyzing undergraduate admissions data to ensure enrollment numbers and targets are achieved. The AVC will be expected to undertake and lead initiatives aimed at UAA 2020 and 65% by 2025 while working with Institutional Research staff to develop reporting tools to assess application processes, volume and productivity of recruitment efforts and develop metrics to forecast enrollment.

Master’s degree plus five years in a supervisory role and seven years of progressively responsible experience in a college or university admissions/recruitment office at an accredited institution that includes supervision and program development responsibility are required. In addition, the following skills will be expected of the new Assistant Vice Chancellor:

  • thorough mastery of productive and efficient admissions operations process and knowledge of best practices and national enrollment trends;
  • superior demonstration of experience in motivating, supervising and evaluating the performance of direct reports;
  • ability to handle multiple demands on time in a calm and effective way;
  • ability to work with leadership within colleges regarding issues impacting undergraduate admissions;
  • exhibiting a strong commitment to student learning and development, contributing generally to institutional and other agency missions, and acknowledging that students play an integral part in mission delivery;
  • effectiveness in working with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds;
  • experience working at a large public university is a plus.
