American History Professor

Job description

Barton College seeks candidates for the tenure-track position of Assistant/Associate Professor of American History. The starting date is mid-August 2018.


Teach undergraduate courses in American history and North Carolina history (4 + 4 course load). Additional teaching assignments may include the college’s general education courses and possibly secondary interests such as American women’s history, Civil War history, and WWII history. Administrative experience would be a plus, as this individual may be called upon to direct one or more of the history program’s lecture series, and/or serve as Program Coordinator for history. Ongoing professional engagement is expected, as is student advising and participation in School of Humanities, college, and professional service. Potential ability to recruit students for the major is also desirable.


  • Doctoral degree in hand
  • Commitment to excellence in undergraduate education
  • Ability and commitment to teach all undergraduate levels of American History
  • Demonstrated record of successful college teaching
