Nighttime Reserves/Circulation Assistant

Job description

Stevenson Library at Bard College is seeking a nighttime Circulation/Reserves Assistant to supervise operations and student workers and to handle library tasks such as circulation, book reserves and special projects, Sundays through Thursdays.

The Circulation/Reserves Assistant acts as a liaison to the college faculty at Bard’s Annandale campus in the preparation of instruction-related materials. He or she manages the Reserves Department and evening student work force; manages Reserves collections of books, videos, music and other materials; creates digital files and maintains them in the Library’s integrated library system that lists course reserves books and tracks their usage. Finally, the Circulation/Reserves Assistant initiates new and replacement book purchases, prepares reports & advises the library director.

The successful candidate will possess a BA with library experience desirable, but not required. Familiarity with higher education environment a plus. We are looking for a thoughtful, organized, sociable person with a high level of commitment to public service. The ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy, timeliness and consistency; to communicate effectively with library staff and users; and the ability to write in a clear, concise fashion are requirements for this position.

Since library hours change several times throughout the academic year, flexibility with scheduling is a must.
