The Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto invites applications for a teaching-stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in user experience design. The position start date is July 1, 2018.
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. specializing in user experience, design, human computer interaction or a related discipline by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. Candidates are expected to demonstrate capacity for outstanding teaching and pedagogical practices, and have experience teaching a variety of courses in user experience, human computer interaction or a related area at the University level. We seek individuals who have expertise in user interface principles, theoretical foundations of HCI, user behaviour, user requirements gathering, usability evaluations, participatory design, and app and web design. We seek enthusiastic individuals with the ability and ambition to advance our Faculty's rigorous, highly-ranked Master's of Information program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the Faculty of Information and the Knowledge Media Design Institute which is an interdisciplinary unit of the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto. The Collaborative Program in Knowledge Media Design offers an interdisciplinary specialization to a regular departmental degree program.
Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogy will be demonstrated by strong letters of reference, the teaching dossier including strong teaching evaluations, submitted as part of the application, use of teaching methods that enhance student engagement and learning, design of innovative course materials and assessments, and demonstrated commitment to excellence in graduate and undergraduate education. Experience in user experience design practice, in scholarship, or in scientific collaboration are all considered additional assets. Successful candidates must have strong endorsements by referees reflecting both excellent teaching and evidence of commitment to pedagogical enquiry and teaching innovation. Our primary objective is teaching excellence. We also expect that the successful candidate will be actively engaged in pedagogy and lead cross-disciplinary change in all of our educational programs.
