General Summary of Position:
The Department of Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts Lowell seeks applications for a tenure track faculty member. The department will hire either an Assistant or an Associate position.
Candidates at either rank or encouraged to apply if they have areas of specialization (AOSs) in applied ethics (environmental, engineering, biomedical, or business). Ideal candidates should have a sustained track record of outstanding scholarship, including evidence of the ability to collaborate across disciplines and secure extramural funding.
The Philosophy Department currently consists of nine full-time faculty members. We offer a B.A. degree in philosophy with optional concentrations in both Communications and Religious Studies. Faculty have the opportunity to engage with a range of interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate degree programs. UMass Lowell is a public national research university with more than 18,000 students; it is ranked as a top-tier national university by U.S. News and World Report.
The standard teaching load is 3/3 but faculty who meet university standards for research productivity are eligible for a 2/2 load. Service to the Department and University is expected as well.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- Ph.D. in Philosophy, ABD will be considered but doctoral requirements must be completed by the time of appointment
- The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
