General Summary of Position:

The Department of Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member with expertise and research interests in immunology/microbial systems. The candidate will be appointed at the assistant, associate, or full professor level, depending upon qualifications.

Potential research foci may include host-pathogen interaction, immune modulation, epigenetic regulation of the immune system, pathogen evolution, microbe interactions, microbial genetics, as well as development of novel antimicrobials, mucosal immunity, immunometabolism, innate immunity, autoimmunity, allergy, T and/or B lymphocyte biology, and molecular immunodiagnostics

The Department of Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences is located within the Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences. The Zuckerberg College is a dynamic, growing college that prepares professionals and scientists in a wide range of health science fields including applied, clinical, and translational areas. A large research program, vibrant community partnerships, and engagement opportunities enrich and support our educational programs. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work with partners in both the biological and pharmaceutical industries and with UMass Lowell faculty within other colleges at the university.

Candidates should have a successful track record of extramural funding and show significant potential to garner continued funding to support their research programs. The candidate should show ability to work with multidisciplinary researchers within the department and the university; and desire to work as a team.

We seek applicants recognized for teaching excellence, scholarly productivity, ability to work with diverse populations, and excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Ability and interest in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels is required. Faculty are engaged in service to the college as required.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):
  • A PhD in immunology, microbiology, or other related biomedical sciences fields - candidate must have PhD at the time of application
  • The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • Strong record of research and publication
  • Evidence of ability to develop an independent research program and secure extramural funding
  • Postdoctoral experience

Additional Considerations:
  • Assistant professor candidates must have a research program with a strong likelihood of funding
  • Associate/full professor candidates must have a strong record of research in a currently tenured position with a record of active extramural research support
  • Experience in fostering interdisciplinary research initiatives

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Discipline specific teaching experience preferred
