Assistant Manager, Academic Support Centers

Job description

Schedule Information: Monday-Thursday schedule: two days, 8:00-4:30; two days, 11:30-8:00. Friday schedule: 8:00-4:30. 

Hours will revert to Monday-Friday, 8:00-4:30 during the week of spring break and interim periods.  Interim periods are between the summer and fall semester, and between the fall and spring semester.

Hours Per Week: 37.5

Duties of Position:  

Collaborates with the Academic Support Centers' (ASC) manager in the recruitment, training, and supervision of all professional tutors/learning specialists; Supplemental Instruction (SI) leaders and student employees.

Works with the Academic Support Centers' manager to provide on-going mentoring, training and evaluation of all part-time employees and student aides.

Collaborates with Academic Support Centers' manager in delivering a comprehensive training program for specialists and Supplemental Instruction leaders and student employees.

Coordinates the recruitment of Business and Social Science tutors and collaborates with discipline faculty to provide review sessions and up-to-date review materials on ASC website.

Provides direct student support through the learning strategy sessions offered by the department.

Collaborates with Academic Support Centers' manager, deans, department chairs and program coordinators in the development of the Supplemental Instruction program.

Develops Supplemental Instruction training materials for SI leaders.

Assists Academic Support Centers' manager in developing and maintaining ASC operating policies and procedures.

Collaborates with Academic Support Centers' manager in developing, managing and monitoring all staff schedules to align with student demand for services.

Works with lead tutors/specialists, discipline coordinators, and classified staff to ensure accurate data capture by the tracking system.

Works with ASC staff to assess current delivery of on-line academic support services.

Engages staff in exploring expansion of on-line academic support services to students and increasing awareness of on-line services.

Collaborate with Academic Support Centers' manager to establish and maintain effective relationships with faculty in order to solicit input and feedback related to maintaining consistency in serving students.

Researches, shares and adopts best practices for both Success Services for Students department and for Supplemental Instruction programs.

Collaborates with the Academic Services Centers' manager in developing and maintaining both the Success Services for Students and the Supplemental Instruction websites.

Collects and maintains data for program analysis and review.

Assist the Centers' Manager in the preparation of needed reports for program assessment and accountability including program review, ICCB and HLC.

Actively promotes all Success Services for Students services including Supplemental Instruction.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements: Master's degree in Engish, Business, or Education preferred.  Bachelor's degree required.

Experience Requirements:  Minimum of three years supervisory experience in a college/university academic support center.  Experience using and developing online academic support services.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Three years teaching experience preferred.  Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Blackboard Collaborate.
