Science Writer / Editor
Min Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related field; 4 years related experience.
Preferred Education: Master's degree with at least 4 years related experience.
Preferred Skill/Competency: Must have grant writing experience in clinical research. Candidates who only have experience in public relations, basic science, or laboratory management are not suitable for this position.
Job Description: The position facilitates the gathering of noteworthy achievements in science on campus and helps translate and disseminate that information through feature articles, news releases, newsletters, social media and other communications venues.
Salary Range: $61,760 to $72,000 annually (commensurate with experience) including benefits: health (employer-paid employee premiums), dental, vision, retirement (employer match), etc.
Job Related Duties: Support faculty and postdocs with grant and manuscript development. Experience in grant and scientific writing for clinical research preferred. This position is not suitable for those without scientific writing experience. A science background is preferred. Duties will include: Literature searches; monitor and analyze funding opportunities; draft of sections for manuscripts and grants; edit of manuscripts and grants; background research to support grant applications; gather information for and compose internal reports and progress reports for funded projects; prepare documents to follow manuscript submission and grant application guidelines; oversee compliance with sponsor guidelines, including those of NIH Public Access; assist with external manuscript review; contact journal editors to clarify manuscript standards as needed prior to submission; analyze and draft responses to reviewer critiques received on grant proposals and manuscripts.
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) in-office position at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.
