Position Information


This position is in the Management Personnel Plan (Administrator I) and earns management benefits including medical, dental, vision, $100,000 life insurance plan, and the CalPERS pension plan.  For more information on benefits included for this position, please see the benefits summary.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, at will position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary based on operational needs.

This position is responsible for supervision of staff in the Student Accounts Services Main Cashier office, as well as, the Extended Studies Cashier office which includes 5 staff and up to 3 student assistants.  This position oversees the Satellite cashiering areas on campus and reviews policies and procedures in these areas and in the main cashiers office.   The Assistant Manager Cashiering will serve as the acting manager when the Manager Student Account Services is out of the office.  This position recommends and initiates procedures, policies, and operational tasks related to cashiering operations.  The position provides guidance to the Controller’s Office and senior management in the resolution of procedural and operational problems.  This position requires knowledge of campus procedures, Federal and State regulations and policies, and other information relevant to the Student Account Services office (including accounting and cash management information).

This position is responsible for staying current with and meeting various processing deadlines for fee payments which include, but are not limited to, tuition/fees, housing fees, applications for admission, graduation applications, transcripts, vendor payments, etc.

This position’s duties are varied and require accuracy, attention to detail, tactfulness, and flexibility.  Thorough knowledge of internal policies and procedures, internal controls, as well as, CASHNet™, ASCOT, and general accounting principles are integral to this position.

This position is also responsible for the customer service in the office, training employees, and the implementation of policies and new procedures.  This position provides reports (ad-hoc and standard) to management using data in the Student Account Services computer systems.

Compensation and Benefits


Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $5,601 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,502 - $8,818 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • At least 1 year experience supervising/leading staff
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible duties within an office environment
  • Experience working with financial transactions which includes reconciliation and reporting of financial data.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial record-keeping methods, procedures, and practices that would apply to this position. Knowledge of accounting, and cash handling procedures. Knowledge and experience following and/or reviewing cash controls and segregation of duties.
  • Working knowledge of database systems and common software packages

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of public higher education policies and procedures.
  • Experience leading/supervising employees in a university Student Accounts or Student Financial Services area.
