Research Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of the UVA Autism Research Core

The Supporting Transformative Autism Research (STAR) initiative at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks candidates for a non-tenure track Research Assistant or Associate Professor and Assistant Director of the newly established UVA Autism Research Core. Rank is dependent upon qualifications. The STAR initiative represents a significant investment in advancing cutting-edge autism research, training, and services at the University of Virginia.

The incumbent is responsible for training and supervision of Autism Research Core staff, oversight of clinical research assessments, including research-reliable administration of diagnostic tools (such as the ADOS-2 and ADI-R) and other phenotypic assessments (e.g., cognitive, language, behavioral, and adaptive functioning), and coordination of autism research across labs and participating programs. Additional responsibilities include collaboration on interdisciplinary autism research projects and assistance with cross-unit and multi-site proposal development and project management. Involvement with community-based training and supervision of pre- and post-doctoral trainees is possible as time allows.

The University of Virginia offers a rich intellectual and scientific environment for autism research, including the UVA Brain Institute and UVA Data Sciences Institute, which were developed to promote cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and collaboration. Excellent resources are available through the STAR initiative to support the development of innovative independent programs of research in autism. Opportunities will also be available for participation in interdisciplinary assessment and treatment of autism through the Sheila C. Johnson Center (SCJC) for Human Services, Developmental Pediatrics, and through collaboration with community partners and programs (including the Virginia Institute of Autism).

A doctorate in clinical, counseling, or school psychology from an APA-approved program or a doctorate in a related field is required by the start date of the position. Applicants must have or be eligible for licensure as a psychologist in Virginia. Previous experience in assessment of children with autism is required. Training in the ADOS/ADI-R and at least one year of experience in an interdisciplinary ASD clinic is preferred. A record of publication in refereed journals is required. A clear line of research focused on individuals with autism and evidence of potential for obtaining external funding are preferred.
