Essential Job Duties: This position will develop corporate relationships and training contracts for NC State University. The Associate Director of Business Development will identify, engage, and contract with clients for the delivery of training programs, with the goal of securing and delivering training contracts of $100,000 and above. The Associate Director is responsible for meeting annual business development goals and will provide direction for other team members on the training and business needs of client partners. The Associate Director will also assist in providing direction for expanding social media and marketing efforts with alumni and other constituents of the university. This position will work closely with faculty and student interns in developing external relationships with potential partners. This role reports to the Associate Director of Executive Education for NCSEE. * Proactively make personal contact via visits and phone calls to prospective new clients in strategic target sectors. Follow up on new leads and referrals. * Prepare proposals and presentations in response to prospective client requests. * Collaborate and implement the design of the training program (with support of faculty and NCSEE Director). * Negotiate contracts and complete contract signing for the fee for service(s). * Develop relationships with influential associations and channel partners to advertise program offerings; present at conference events. * Leverage relationships and activities across campus to expand connections within NC State. * Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the full portfolio of NC State program offerings and executive education faculty expertise for this market.
Minimum Education/Experience: * Minimum of five (5) years of selling/business development experience with corporate/government organizations * Experience engaging senior organizational leaders * Proven experience in developing new corporate relationships and expanding existing relationships, including the ability to evaluate, qualify and move prospects through the cultivation/solicitation cycle
Department Required Skills: * Ability to successfully sell executive education programs * Strong consultative/selling acumen * Knowledge of executive education industry and distance learning technologies * Strong underlying acumen to understand, analyze and make recommendations linking key organizational development issues to learning needs of clients * Ability to work as a "trusted advisor" with senior leaders, including at the senior officer/executive level * Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team of professionals * Ability to work well with faculty, administrators, student volunteers, and other outreach and extension colleagues as part of a team in a large, complex research university. * Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) * Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a dynamic environment * Strong organization and analytical skills with high attention to detail * Self-motivated and self-starting * Computer Literacy * Ability to work evenings and weekends as required * Ability to travel frequently around the state of North Carolina and some out of state travel * Experience in cold calling, negotiating, and closing business deals
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Academic or private sector work experience in selling executive training programs * MBA or equivalent combination of education and work experience * An understanding of the land grant, research Tier One university environment * Familiarity with NC State University
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: A valid North Carolina driver's license is required within 60 days of start date and must be maintained as a condition of employment. Regular local travel and some regional/out-of-state travel is required for this position.
