The Associate Dean of University College will assist the Dean with the vision, strategic planning, and administration of the College with specific duties related to advancing the College's mission of providing non-traditional educational pathways and modalities of instruction, career and professional development opportunities, and faculty development.
This is a three (3) year appointment.Represents University College on university councils, committees, work groups, and other bodies as assigned.
Under the direction of the Dean of University College, the Associate Dean:
Assists the Dean in planning and developing new courses and curricula, as well as revising existing curricula.
Builds partnerships with community and industry leaders.
Directs College academic assessments, program reviews, and accreditation processes. Works collaboratively with programs to maintain annual evaluation processes and meet university and external assessment requirements. Reviews and assesses enrollment in credit and non-credit course offerings.
Assists with faculty recruitment and hiring.
Works with faculty to develop College bylaws and policies.
Serves as a resource on policy issues, guiding the process of gathering information and developing, interpreting, and implementing university policies and procedures.
Oversees student academic issues, including appeals, withdrawals, exceptions to policy, misconduct, complaints, etc.
Seeks opportunities for collaboration with academic support systems within the College, including Center for Teaching and Learning, State Authorization, International Services, and with external stakeholders.
Provides support, counsel, and assistance to the Dean on administrative matters as requested, including input on strategic directions and planning for the College, budgeting, accountability requests and reports, and disciplinary issues.
Assists in overseeing the daily operations of the College.
Represents the Dean at various institutional functions and with the university community as assigned and acts on behalf of the Dean in the Dean’s absence.
Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited Institution.
Experience with degree completion programs and alternative pathways through higher ed.
Achievement of tenure and rank of at least Associate Professor.
A minimum of three (3) years of effective higher education leadership experience.
Skills, Knowledge, Expertise:
Experience in creating non-traditional approaches to life-long learning (e.g. micro-credentials, badging, prior learning assessment) and knowledge of current trends and best practices in retention, persistence, and completion.
Expertise, educational background, experience, and/or knowledge of current practices and trends related to any of the following: degree completion, international students, community college articulation agreements, educational pathways to Bachelor’s degrees, professional development units, and workforce upskilling.
Deep knowledge of best practices in online teaching and learning.
Knowledge of higher education administrative processes, including but not limited to program assessment, faculty development, and evaluation.
Experience with personnel issues including supervising and managing employees.
Knowledge of issues related to state authorization.
Excellent social skills and ability to make independent decisions.
Ability to conduct assessments according to best practices and university needs.
Ability to conduct research, analyze data, and write and prepare reports.
Ability to communicate effectively.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment at the offices of the University College in Stockton, but travel to the San Francisco and Sacramento campuses is required. Work performed during standard business hours, with some flexibility as dictated by the duties.
Valid driver’s license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University’s fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
