Assistant Professor of Graphic Design and Digital Media

Job description

Juniata College, a nationally ranked liberal arts college of 1600 students located in the scenic mountains of central Pennsylvania, invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design & Digital Media. This is a full-time, tenure track position with a start date of August 2018.

The Program of Integrated Media Arts invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor in Graphic Design and Digital Media. We seek a working digital artist with an MFA degree. The successful candidate will combine design and art disciplines with media production to help students navigate in an increasingly media influenced art world. The candidate should have a strong commitment to teaching and a thorough understanding of the imaginative processes of media and digital arts practices and the technical means necessary to their production. The successful candidate is expected to foster growth in Integrated Media Arts by strengthening and diversifying course offerings in graphic design and media production.

The new hire must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and be able to teach in several of the following disciplines: graphic design, web-based and multi-media interactive art, digital video production, 3D modeling, motion graphics, animation, and social media.

Candidates must be willing to develop, coordinate, and teach beginning through advanced courses, bringing diverse skills and background to a liberal arts environment. The new hire will be responsible for contributing to the direction of a small but energetic Studio Art program and to the Integrated Media Arts program. Full-time faculty members teach seven courses per year. Other responsibilities include advising and recruiting students and committee work. Juniata College seeks professionally outstanding applicants with an active exhibition and/or professional record who value its mission and share its commitment to academic excellence through teaching.

In a single PDF, compile cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy, a list of courses taught, a list of courses you would be able to teach, and three reference letters (with contact information). Submit an electronic portfolio with 20 examples of your creative work, 20 examples of student work, and 10-15 examples of commercial work (if available); this may be uploaded as a single PDF (9GB max), or a URL in lieu of an uploaded document for files that exceed 9GB. Review of applications will begin February 12, 2018 with interviews scheduled after that date, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Only electronic materials will be accepted. It is the policy of Juniata College to conduct background checks.

Juniata College takes positive steps to enhance diversity in both its community and its curriculum. The college commits to this policy not because of legal obligations but because it fully believes that such practices are basic to human dignity.
