Position Summary: This position is a primary staff position in the Sports Medicine Department of the Campus Health Service. The Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist will serve as an athletic trainer for specific UNC teams and provide physical therapy/athletic training services for all students including varsity and non-varsity athletes. The PT/AT will participate actively in the clinical education of the Sports Medicine Department employees, including graduate and undergraduate programs for Athletic Training students housed in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science. In addition, the Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist will participate in the clinical training of the many health care professionals-in-training, residents, and medical students on the Sports Medicine Service and other allied health students that are involved in affiliations with the Sports Medicine Program. Where appropriate, this position will participate in the research activities carried out by the Sports Medicine Program. The Associate Director of Sports Medicine will supervise this position.
Education Requirements: The minimum level of formal education necessary to perform the duties of the Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist is a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy and NATA Certification as a Certified Athletic Trainer. Additional certification as a Sports Certified Specialist is recommended. Q&E: Three years of work experience as an Athletic Trainer at the college level are necessary to function effectively in this job. A Master's Degree and two years of full time employment in an intercollegiate setting are desirable. The Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist will be bound by both the Athletic Trainer Licensure Act (G.S. 90-525, 528) and the provisions and requirements for Licensure as a Physical Therapist covered under (G.S. 90-270-35), the Physical Therapy Practice Act of 1985.
Qualification and Experience: Work experiences as an athletic trainer at the college level are necessary to function effectively in this job. A Master's Degree and two years of full time employment in an intercollegiate setting are desirable. The Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist will be bound by both the Athletic Trainer Licensure Act (G.S. 90-525, 528) and the provisions and requirements for Licensure as a Physical Therapist covered under (G.S. 90-270-35), the Physical Therapy Practice Act of 1985.
