Tenure-track position in Inclusive Elementary Education in a vibrant teacher education program serving diverse communities. Appointment includes teaching a range of undergraduate and graduate courses for preservice and inservice elementary teachers with an emphasis on preparing candidates for certification as Teachers of Students with Disabilities (TSD), building strong partnerships with local schools to develop inclusive communities, and contributing to the vision and growth of the department. Candidates at higher rank may be asked to coordinate programs in inclusive education/TSD certification. Faculty members are expected to be active scholars; develop a significant body of research and publications; advise students; engage in curriculum development, including online courses; contribute to accreditation processes; participate in department, college, and university committees; and teach both on and off campus.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required: Earned doctorate in Elementary Education, Disability Studies in Education, Special Education, Curriculum and Teaching, or related field. Strong preparation in inclusive education at the elementary level, successful teaching experience in inclusive elementary schools or equivalent, a well-defined research agenda, and a record of publications and evidence of scholarly activities appropriate for the rank sought.
Preferred: Theoretical expertise in Disability Studies in intersection with other critical theoretical frameworks in the context of education. Practical expertise and experience in special education, literacy education, universal design for learning, learners with significant disabilities, educational and assistive technologies, and/or educational assessment. Practical experience with these areas in the context of urban schools and with English language learners. Elementary and Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TSD) teaching and/or early childhood teaching certification. Experience with doctoral-level teaching and advising. Experience using digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning, including teaching online.
