Position Summary

The Director of Advancement and Alumni Relations for the School of Nursing is charged with the primary responsibility for providing leadership, management, planning, budget preparation and evaluation of fundraising and alumni relations to promote the growth and support of the Nursing School.

The Director works closely with the Dean, University Advancement, Nursing Advisory Board, the Nursing Alumni Association, and Nursing's contracted support services, etc. to enhance and support the overall mission of the school and in alignment with University Advancement offices and programs to assure the success of the School of Nursing's goals and objectives.

The Director promotes and actively collaborates with all university offices and programs with which the SON interfaces. This position manages one full-time staff member and serves as a resource/facilitator to government, community services and community at large. The Director actively acts as an ambassador for nursing and philanthropy.

Job Duties include:
• Fundraising: identify, cultivate, solicit gifts (major, special interest, planned, corporate/foundation) for the school in coordination with other Development staff and programs and Board members and assist with gift procurement for the university at large - to ensure a strong base of ongoing financial support
• Manages a prospect portfolio of 150 potential donors at various stages of philanthropy
• Sets goals and other performance metrics annually with the Dean and Associate Vice Chancellor
• Serve as liaison for multidisciplinary development efforts for SON and with university
• Select, manage and direct staff, volunteers, contractors and vendors as needed
• Work in coordination with university annual giving office to insure success of Nursing's annual giving efforts: annual gift asks, direct mail, donor data, gift acknowledgments, website support
• Work in coordination with University Donor Relations office to insure good stewardship and information dissemination to donors
• Works in coordination with appropriate development officers to procure and steward corporate and foundation gifts
• Works in coordination with Gift Planning officer to develop and market, cultivate and solicit planned gifts

School of Nursing Alumni Relations:
• Serve as School of Nursing liaison with Nursing Alumni (NA) Board (15 members) and alumni (8,000)
• Provide staff support and oversight in dissemination of news, NA board meetings, numerous fundraising activities, and social events throughout the year
• Focus solicitation plans for alumni giving and design of annual giving appeal purpose
• Assist NA board in nomination process of annual Distinguished Alumni Award
• Work with SON upper division junior and senior classes in their fundraising efforts to support SON and as upcoming future alumni; design programs to educate and engage them in philanthropy for the school

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required
• Minimum of five years of experience in fundraising (preferably higher education) or in related fields, e.g., nursing, medicine, healthcare, if the experience transfers effectively to requirements of the position
• Strong organizational skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate to diverse constituencies
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
• Willingness to travel
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to utilize technical resources available to development staff

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree preferred
• Familiarity with the healthcare industry preferred, but not required
