Job Summary

The Department Chairperson provides academic leadership to the Architecture, Interior Design & Building Construction Department and serves as an integral member of the College and Campus administrative team. Facilitates learning, quality teaching, scholarships and services. The Department Chairperson also provides support and advice in the collective bargaining process, and ensures adherence to relevant areas of any collective bargaining agreement. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.

Duties & Responsibilities

•Supervises the development and/or revision of curricula, and implements instructional
•Develops class schedules and faculty assignments
•Teaches at least one (1) course within the credentialed discipline per academic year
•Hires, supervises, and evaluates personnel
•Prepares and maintains department budgets
•Manages labs, equipment, and other department resources
•Ensures the effective implementation of the faculty advancement processes
•Provides program information and ensures the availability of advisement services for students
•Maintains SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) accreditation compliance
•Serves on Campus and College-wide committees
•Participates in the development and implementation of College policies, procedures, and guidelines
•Resolves issues and problems that may arise with faculty, staff, and students
•Provides training opportunities for employees
•Collaborates with other disciplines including, but not limited to: engineering, technology & humanities.
•Builds relationships with external partners and funding agencies.
•Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

•Master's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Building Construction or related field and five (5) years of relevant experience in management, higher education and/or teaching
•All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
•Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate (both oral and written) with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a complex organizational structure and a diverse community
•Able to develop consensus and provide inspired leadership
•Demonstrated “Students First” philosophy of service
•Knowledgeable and inclusive of a wide range of instructional pedagogies
•Possess excellent organizational skills including: prioritizing multiple competing tasks
•Ability to supervise, coach and train staff
•Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
•Knowledgeable of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and
•Knowledgeable of the requirements of accreditation agencies
•Skilled in budget management
•Proficient in Microsoft Office and applicable departmental computer software applications
•Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments
•Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff
