Primary Function of Organization Unit: Crop & Soil Sciences is a Department with diverse disciplines that encompass research, extension and teaching related to soil science and theory and the genetic improvement, production and utilization of agronomic and turf-grass crops. Leaders in research and applied science and the engagement and technology transfer to public and/or private sector practitioners.
Essential Job Duties: The Extension Associate will be responsible for developing and conducting training in the realm of waste management related to wastes from on-site systems, municipalities (biosolids), and other organic wastes. Classes will include three schools - land application, spray, and subsurface - as well as general on-site waste water training. The position will be required to maintain the land application and the on-site wastewater hands-on displays at Lake Wheeler. This includes ensuring that the displays function. Manage workers who will provide general maintenance of the site (grounds upkeep, etc.).
Minimum Education/Experience: Master's Degree in Soil Science, Agronomy, Agricultural Education or closely related field.
Department Required Skills: Excellent communication skills, especially the ability to teach adult learners. Also, the applicant should be able to trouble shoot on-site systems, good mechanical skills are required.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Three years experience working in the area of on-site wastewater or land application management. * Experience working directly or indirectly with health departments with on-site systems and have an agronomic background. * Teaching or training experience is a plus.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: A valid drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
