Duties of Position:  

Responsible for managing the pursuit and administration of competitive and formula-funded grants for both Harper College and the Harper College Educational Foundation.  Recommends strategies for grant funding, researching private and government grants from corporate, foundation, federal, state and local sources.

 

Provides advice to President and other administrators regarding grants. Administers the full cycle of the grant process.

 

Raises corporate, foundation, and government funds to support the work for Harper College and the Harper College Educational Foundation.

 

Provides advice to the President, Provost, Deans, faculty and staff on production and submission of grant opportunities in their areas. Trains campus on grant development process.

 

Writes and develops grants as appropriate, often coordinating a core team of professionals in the process.

 

Cultivates relationships with corporate, foundation, federal, state and local grant leaders to support College initiatives and programs.

 

Develops annual grant funding plans based on organizational priorities and makes recommendations regarding initiatives that are associated with the college’s Strategic Plan.

 

Manages and evaluates both internal and external teams of grant-writers and consultants to develop sources of external funding for instructional, support and service needs that cannot be supported entirely through the regular College Budget.

 

Conducts research on grant opportunities from private foundations and corporations and from governmental agencies at the federal, state, and local levels..

 

Stewards existing grantor relationships to meet funder needs for community dialogue and needs assessments, name recognition, and institutional engagement.

 

Manages and staffs the Educational Foundation’s Corporate and Foundation Relations Committee. Coordinates the goals of the committee with the co-chairs.

 

Manages and staffs the Resource for Excellence Committee. Puts out the call to faculty and staff for proposals, counsels applicants, coordinates the interview and selection process and monitors the awarding and spending of funds.

 

Serves as back-up for the Chief Advancement Officer in committee work and external community functions as needed.

 

Works with accounting to ensure utilization of appropriate accounting and auditing procedures.  Assists with audits as necessary.

 

Prepares various reports regarding college and foundation grants to the Director of Advancement Services and to the Board of Trustees and Foundation Board.

 

Oversees the maintenance of all grant records including: Grant Status Reports, Foundation Research Library, including grant guidelines, notification of Requests For Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Applications (RFAs) opportunities, instructional manuals, sample RFPs and RFAs, and annual reports.

 

Performs related duties as assigned.

 

Educational Requirements:  

Bachelor’s degree required. English, marketing, communications or related area preferred.  Master’s degree in related area preferred.

Experience Requirements:  

Five years experience in grants management, preferably in higher education.  Two to three years of supervisory experience.
